Mysterious Cave No Longer Offers Mysterious Chest?

So I had the Mysterious Cave as a Bounty, and I noticed that on Level 1 there was no Mysterious Chest, which as you know offers only a single vial of Liquid Rainbow, one of the ingredients needed to build the Staff of Herding:

I have never actually built a Staff of Herding, because I have no interest in endlessly farming Whimsyshire (corrected ty to MB). But if the ingredients present themselves, I collect them. I have never possessed all of the ingredients needed to build the Staff of Herding at one time.

As it turns out, like all other things, the Mysterious Chest on Level 1 of the Mysterious Cave is not guaranteed, but a random spawn that may show up. So there wasn’t one in my game, but it was a serendipitous occurrence that gave me the opportunity to refresh my memory and to convey the foregoing information to others who may not know it, or whose memories may have dimmed over time.

Staff of Herding = Gives access to Whimsyshire
Rainbow Goblin Portal = Gives access to Whimsydale

Whimsyshire is not worth farming unless you want the rainbow portrait frame. Good luck finding that dang teddy bear. I make a whimsystaff every season and usually run the shire about 20 - 50 times but have never found that teddy bear. I did get the Mysterious cave bounty once without the chest too. Didn’t think the chest was guaranteed though so I’ll try again. Also you don’t have to have the bounty to get the cave.

The mysterious chest does spawn there but its never been a 100% spawn rate. I have personally gotten the liquid rainbow from it in S19.

None of the items are guaranteed spawns/drops.

FYI: The gibbering gemstone is generally the worst to get. The rare that drops it is there less than 50% and the cave itself is only a 25% approx spawn rate.

Yeah, you can kill Chiltara 100 times in a row and that shrew won’t drop the damn gem. She is one of the reasons I gave up any interest in that staff and area, and I sleep better at night for it.
