Multiples of Similar Items?

Would someone, please, explain to me how, with 1400 shards - and numerous upgrades in kanai’s - that I come away with multiples of the same 5/6 helms?

Welcome to Diablo III.

RnG is the name of the game. Isn’t it great?

O_o

You figure that out, then you can explain to me why I get streaks of spending over 10k shards and not getting the one item I’m looking for. Sometimes more. This game is kooky dukes like that.

The same reason why I failed 5 times to level a legendary gem at 90%. Or the same reason why the Mystic will give you options that are inferior to the ability you already have on the item. Or the same reason why most of the primal items are junk. Or the same reason why you click on the dead bodies and never get anything (unless you are in the cow level). The list goes on and on.

I hear you - especially regarding Primals. My most recent fortuitous acquisition was Bul-Kathos Wedding Band. Joy!

Same thing I have experienced ever the years of playing. Though there’s no definite answer from the devs about it, I believe in the “loot table” theory going on for a long time.

Using shards and UG Rare in Kanai yields me the same legendary items almost the same time. If this is happening to me, I log off and log in again then I get different sets of the same legendary items.

Others may not agree with me. But it works for me so it does not mater what they say.

Because some of the items in loot tables are more heavily weighted than others and/or 1400 shards is a comparatively tiny sample size of results to interpolate from.

I wish it truly was RNG on console. Sadly it’s predetermined. );

Really? Just started on XBone 2 days ago with a DH.

Upgrading daggers for a Karleis, and my first 14 were Greenstones…

With only 2 possibilities, I was very shocked to have it miss so many times in a row.

Please explain what you mean by consoles being predetermined, as it may just end my time playing it.

Save your game on a USB stick. Burn all your mats and shards. Reload the saved data and do it again and the results are the same. At least for seasons I believe.

That’s not terrible then, really.

If it was different, ppl would just reload/ save until they were outfitted with all primals.

Edit: this might be worth trying with a change of difficulty in between attempts. I believe the primal rate increases with torment level, so gamble on T1, record drops, reload, gamble on T16 and see if anything changes.

If an ancient drops from T1 but mutates to primal on T16 after several tests, just save before all gambling attempts. Then gamble on T1, see what you get this round. If it’s the ancient version of what you want. Reload on T16 over and over until it mutates to primal.

if you are not getting the wanted item, create a new game, that said item is not in the loot table or has a very low chance to drop on the game you are currently playing or being get by kadala/rare upgrade. the best you can do is try 10-20 in a game if you dont get, leave and create a new game, rinse and repeat until you get it. works for me all the time

It is because Kadala is the true Prime Evil, simple as that. She knows what you want and jacks with you, right up until the time you are going to quit for good, then she gives you a crappy version of what you want. She is that good. Diablo’s powers pale in comparison to hers. Look forward to her being the final end boss in the last xpac of D4.

Sounds more like Kadala is the in-game embodiment of the D3 dev team…

If I remember correctly on the PS3 it used to be totally random when crafting. PS4 or maybe seasons changed it bit exactly sure.

Ha that’s funny.

For me the true prime evil is a rainbow goblin and whichever dev thought it’d be a great idea to stack RNG on top of RNG. haha

RNG on that really. What I really wanna know is what happened tonight. Killed an elite, dropped 4 belts…all Razor straps

Pseudo intellectual coming through.

Read about randomness in computer/programming. I’m sure there are better people here in this forum that can explain it better, but as far as my understanding goes, real randomness is hard to create in programming. They use pseudo randomness instead to mimic that random feel. In order to create this, they use outside seed, usually that will not result in the same input, and it will give an output accordingly. The way this pseudo randomness works is that, if that outside seed is the same, the result/output will always be the same.

You might guess where I’m going with this. If somehow whether due to lag/latency, whatever, pseudo random number generator in D3 doesn’t get proper outside seed from whatever source it takes it from, I’d say what you’re experiencing will happen; an elite dropping 4 legendary at once. Not a RG, mind you, at least according to what you’re implying, a normal elite dropping 4 legendary in one kill, which is unlikely in the first place. And if outside seed were the same, it could be 4 belts, all Razor Straps.

In short, I consider those rng in-game derping due to lag/latency. This is why if something like that happens, an unlikely events keep happening, I try to change whatever in my in-game environment, to change whatever outside seed/input D3 is using. Leaving game and creating a new one is one of them, but mostly it’s in regards of Mystic; I use an Act 5 one instead of one I usually use.

I think of this in every other game out there. Some might think it’s ‘rigged’, I just think imperfections in rng system, unless there is strong proof that it is rigged.

Ye that’s true. I’ve also heard that sometimes that seed is based on time/date. And sometimes it has its glitches - like dropping 2 same items. Had this thing a couple of days ago with quite rare item in D2. At first one such thing dropped, then in a mintune - a second one.

just start season almost a week, and I’m almost completed primal blackthorn sets …lol

Hey, thanks for all the info.

As for the ‘Loot Table Theory,’ I’ve done this on many occasions. After every Legendary and plus, I’d reset the game, only to get, mostly, similar items. For a time, it seemed to work well; however, of late, I’m getting multiples of similar items.

Also, the grind of grinding has ground me out. I get that - like in life - crafting items of exceptional quality is…, well, exceptionally difficult, which is reflected in the mimic-randomization; however, the countless hours required to get said items, though, is starting to feel a bit unrealistic.

Again, thanks for the input.
