I can usually understand a developer’s reason for not doing something. This is not to say Blizz has been lying. It is possible for a line of bad or overly restricting code to lead to the inability to add more stash space.
I can understand why people think it is just laziness since available memory has gotten so much larger than when D3 first came out. Once again, I know programming enough to know that how something is programmed is often a limiter and hard to get around.
All that said, I REALLY need more stash space. I have already thrown out all of my hunter and witch doctor gear, but with the coming sets for wizard and barbarian, I am having to seriously consider removing my crusader stash.
Almost more than the sets, I would love more stash space.
I stopped playing mainly (but not exclusively) because I ran out of stash space.
If I can’t get more stash space because you won’t let me mod the game, and can’t get more stash space because you can’t offer it to me, you’re not giving me many options, are you. I’m not going to keep playing.
They told us a while back when they planned more stash space…it cant be done without impacting the servers…the game loads the stash into memory and does so for 4 players in a group…they tested adding more on PC and Console and it made the game have issues.
The resaon why they are not adding stash is a limitation of the game technically.
An easy workaround would be splitting the 13 tabs into 8 global and 5 per-character tabs. Visible stash in game and engine stress would be the same, but each char could carry all he needs in his personal stash.
Or something, like a new separate stash in the menue. Servers are stressed whenn all that gear is in the game session. But probably easier if a large part of items is stored in a way, you dont have to start a game session.
That’s just more stash in effect and has the same issue in that the game cannot function correctly…where you put extra stash (stash or armory) still means the game has more lag etc.
So 8 stashes are shared across all characters but each character you have has 5 personal stash tabs and the game will have to calculate upon load what is in your stash for those 5 tabs?
Yes that means still only 13 are loaded yet the game has more work to do to calculate what is in those 5 personal stash tabs?
So if you had ten characters you would have 8 stash tabs shared and 50 personal stash tabs 5 per character? But you wouldn’t see those 50…just 5 the one with your loaded character? How would you search for things if you load a character yet think an item is on another characters personal stash?
I seen a lot of people rocking the litith wings, & I am sure Many has it no just because Of blizzcon virtual tickets.
I got the blizzxon virtual tickets AFTER blizzcon to get the wings.
I am sure I am not alone. Many people are happy to give blizzard money to add more contents, but they never give us the chance. I happily paid for more stash space, nice armors and pets. But that boat has sailed.
I hope wolcen is good , (paid for early access ) that can tided me u til D4 drops.
Well, I would gladly to pay for the extra stash too. For a profit-driven company such as Blizzard, I really surprised that they haven’t thought of monetize the stash space until now.
Well, it’s basically like with the mules. You only see (and stress the engine) with what is in global and current char.
You store barb gear on barb, monk gear on monk, etc. Universal gear (gems) in global. So no search problems.
one of the reasons we are requesting offline mode OR modding is the stash space issue.
-if offline mode is there, and you play offline chars, you can store as much items as you want on your local harddrive. since offline chars will never go online, all the account-bound, and trading data is simply not needed.
-if offline mode is there, modding will also be possible. allowing to fix other things Devs don’t have time for…like moving all materials to currencies for example… or to add real auto-pick-up…
-if the game is online only, but modding is possible…then, private servers should also be possible… and modders could probably fix things with stash space if devs lack time to do it…
-if some sort of blizz controled, restricted modding is possible… well then, fixing potential stash issue will probably not be possible, but i don’t know…
The issue that was described by Blizzard was not about the total amount of stash space an acccount has but the fact that the players current stash is loaded into all players games in a multiplayer game.
If you think about this in its simplest terms, it is not about the total resources dedicated to an account’s stash. To illustrate this point, Blizzard has never said stash storage space is a problem for people who play season and non-seasons and hardcore and softcore. At times, one account could theoretically have 52 stash tabs.
Also, if 13 tabs was a theoretical max for stash space, then Blizzard could always add a few more character slots.
In this case, it is probably the net code at fault. Specifically since it was probably written for net speeds and capacity back when it first came out.
What you would do to reduce load and load times later is to preload everything. It would reduce lag time for the other players when you changed your gear using something like the wardrobe. Since the code preloaded it, no delay.
However, the more you preload, the more chances there are for a desync due to a corrupted packet.
If no one in your group did a large change of gear or did no change of gear that used the chest, then the probability of a problem is pretty close to zero.
Seriously blizzard, I want a notice like p.o.e. that tells me I can buy more bag space if I need it. I started playing season 19 then realize I’m already running out of space and have no more character slots left to mule. If items are going to be much more interesting in d4 I’m guessing lots of hoarders will be running out of space quickly.
