Why dont they fix the modded items people use on seasonal on consoles? People making GR150’s in 1min wtf is that why dont they fix it?
The biggest issue here is that the file encryption on the consoles (with the exception of Xbox) has been cracked. Even if Blizzard would be able to do something and delete every single modded item in existence in this very instant, those items would be back in play in no time.
As long as the the encryption is compromised, modded items will remain a permanent plague on consoles. Maintaining a working and secure file encryption is not Blizzard’s responsibility.
The problem is off line mode should mean just that, No leader boards No using offline character’s or items. If they want to mod offline stuff fine. But if they play online then it would stream the data just like PC. To me this is the best solution for those who want to mod and those who want to play the game as intended.
Who’s responsibility is it the makers of the consoles? If the season is played on bnet servers then it is Blizz’s responsibility to make a good encryption. If it is the maker of the console’s servers then they are responsible.
This is just one piece of evidence that shows why it would be a bad idea to have offline mode for the PC version. Players would keep trying to find ways of getting modded items or other forms of cheating that are not possible right now on the PC servers.
Modded gear in non seasons was always possible via save editing on XB360 and PS3 given both older gens were hacked and D3 allows the export/import of save files from them into PS4/XB1.
Mod a PS3 save file, open up D3 on PS3, export save ingame…open up PS4 version of D3 on same PSN account and import save from ingame and bang you have modded gear in non season. You cannot do this though for Seasonal toons because the PS3/XB360 doesn’t know what Seasons are given they are on patch 2.06 prior to seasons coming out.
But recently the PS4 version, for the first time, has Seasonal toons with modded gear too.
The PS4 uses a SAMU chip with encryption keys stored on the chip to encrypt/decrypt saves. This encryption key is known.
Thus you can take a PS4 on old firmware, soft jailbreak it and use tools developed by modders to decrypt saves…edit them…encrypt them again then copy the save to a PS4 on the latest firmware so you can play with the modded save.
All of that is tricky to do but what you can also do is grab a save from someone who has modded it (they distribute online) and “resign” the save to your PSN account and online tools such as Save Wizard do this as a service thus you can easily share save files across accounts.
This is why you see the same gear on multiple accounts on the PS4/PS5.
I guess the reason why the PS5 stops the allowing of saves to be stored on a USB drive is to try and mitigate the PS5 encryption keys being used in this way if they are discovered.
Blizzard nor any developer can do anything about a game being subject to a console specific hack…Sony cannot change the encryption key on the SAMU chip without breaking everyones save files that use the old key.
What Blizzard COULD do on console is sense check the save file upon load. They already did this once to mitigate rank 2,000,000,000 Legendary Gems where a rank 2,000,000,000 Gem of Ease instantly gave you 10,000 paragon with one hit.
What Blizzard did is upon load of save on Console it reduced the rank of any LG to 150 if it was over 150.
This is why you can no longer get LG’s above 150 in the game now.
Blizzard could extend that sense check to ensure all items and all stats are within the boundaries of the game but it would seriously hamper load times which can already be around 30 seconds from cold boot up of the game.
And the fact the dev time is precious and they are not going to spend it on Console specific areas.
Switch is fully hacked too and its had Seasonal Leaderboards ruined by modders since the game came out on Switch and Blizzard have never addressed it…ever.
Whilst the Console platform suppliers host the leaderboards on the PSN, Live and Switch networks Blizzard do have administrative capabilities to tidy up the Console leaderboards…they just don’t.
The XB1 is the only Console to not have modded gear in Seasons (it has in non season via export/import of saves from XB360) because the XB1 encryption keys are currently not known, or released, or being used to decrypt saves.
Thus PS4/PS5 (which is just the PS4 version on backwards compatibility) and Switch have Seasons compromised with modded gear that can do a GR150 in seconds.
XB1 remains free from modded gear in Seasons and is the only Console platform to be relatively free from exploits in Seasons bar save scumming.
This sound like a simple viable solution. A sanity check on the toon. Any gear specs outside of game range…insta-ban from the game…thank please send another $69.99 for a new license.
Screw all the modders as the ruin the game far more than any botter.
This is on Blizzard, and not the console makers. Nor is it related to offline mode.
Why are they storing the freaking online save games on the console. That is just crazy.
And as mentioned above, if you do such a crazy thing, at least check the savefiles for obvious tampering.
This, Here is what offline really means since people seem to think it won’t work.
- 100% SSF
- You can not join any public game
- No one can join your game
- No leader boards since you would be offline
- Only the offline save file would be stored locally.
- Offline and online characters are completely seperate
- You can not share, transfer or mail any items between offline and online characters.
These things can easily be done as i have a couple of games that work this way.
To my knowledge no one has been able to get around this because the online save data is not stored locally and resides in memory during game session then is removed after game session. There might be other ways to circumvent the system but then one risk getting the account banned. The point of this is having an option to play with out all the lag and rubber banding. This would free up server resource for those who want to play online. I will not buy a $500 console just to play a game and i don’t care much for consoles they always break and are exspensive to replace.
Sorry for this being long winded… It happens
They aren’t…D3 on Console has no online saves as it is not integrated into BNet.
D3 on Console is 100% offline saves for Seasons and Non Season.
That is what I said.
It doesn’t have to use B-Net to store saves online. They made the decision to save offline, and it is fairly insane.
because it is console
duhhhhhhh
