Microsoft laying off 1900 Activision/Blizzard employees

:o

Hopefully they don’t fire Raymond the Janitor, since he’s the one who keeps things running.

Oof. :grimacing:

It was to be expected some might be laid off but that’s still a lot of people.

Also the new survival game has been killed.

It’s to be expected every time there’s an acquisition like this. It’s especially harsh because so many other companies are laying off at the same time.

Even if I get annoyed at some of the decisions being made about the direction these games take, still can’t help but feel awful for the people that lost their job :disappointed:

Of course the C Suite never has to deal with these things. They’ll give themselves a bonus :face_vomiting:

Big bucks Bobby Kotick walked away with his 400 - 500 million last month.

“Allen Adham, Blizzard’s Chief Design Officer, is leaving the company.” I wonder if MS will drop the name Blizzard.

It seems even Riot did the same things.

ibarra is gone too. which is the only good news.

I hope all those affected find employment elsewhere soon. It’s not a good experience to have your livelihood on shaky grounds. Been there myself where i was layed off amongst 14000 others simply to balance the books.

I do wonder how many are from the Diablo team?

1,900 Activision Blizzard and Xbox employees

That’s a lot of people who are laid off. As I have read, most of ABK Customer Support got shown the door.

Probably to be outsourced to India. :man_facepalming:

Even more contact information their “night mode business” can use to scam people with. (Not saying they all do it)

Been through 2 acquisitions. Most of the layoffs will be when they have redundant departments. Sadly, they aren’t going to lay off their own, even if the ActiBlizz employee is better.

Hopefully, everyone can land somewhere comparable. Too bad Bobby Big Bucks isn’t going to spread around some of his massive windfall to take care of his loyal employees.

PAAAHAHAHAHAHAH yeah right. The rich don’t stay rich giving free handouts. The thought would never cross his greedy mind.

Knew that was coming. They’re going to move Blizzard out of Irvine. Maybe out of California entirely.

I used to consider myself pretty right wing, but at this point I support income caps for these people. A few million should be enough for anyone. And it would actually lead to more innovation since these monopolists wouldn’t be driven to eradicate competition, etc. I digress.

Capitalism might be revered as the best way in the western world, but it definitely has its pitfalls with the wrong people in the right positions.

Some people, their crowning achievement is to make the most money they possibly can, caring little to not at all who’s lives may suffer in order for them to achieve their goal… The big problem is that the goal doesn’t have an “end”.

I never even thought of that possibility, but it sure makes a lot of sense.

Without the incentive to achieve innovation becomes impossible. Therein lies the failure that is Socialism. All the best minds will just move on to something more rewarding.
