Micro Stutter Problem

Hi, i just purchased the pc version of Diablo 3 as i have a new pc! I notice it is constantly running into constant micro stutter problems yet the fps counter doesn’t actually drop. i have a 60hz monitor and have it all set to 60fps and locked with vsync on because of screen tearing. Even with vsync off with the screen tearing, the micro stuttering doesn’t go away! I have also tried to run it in 32bit mode which also didn’t help! Its frustrating because console runs the game fine and my pc runs all the latest games on ultra settings! Any Help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Specs are

i9 9900k
RTX 2080ti
16gb Ram
Also got 400mb internet speed so the internet shouldn’t be an issue!

i have exactly same issue for years actually and no matter what i tried this annoying stuttering is always there. 60hz monitor, v-sync on and about every 2 mins i get this stutter that lasts for around 6-8 sec and then goes back to normal and runs perfectly smooth until next cycle. And its only happening in D3. The amount of settings changes i did in both game, nvidia control panel, drivers and whatnot is beyond count.

in this topic i described the issue a bit more

Wow, for years. That is interesting that it happens in cycles, i feel that mine is perhaps a little too frequent to see if it is in any cycles however i probably should test it out. One of my friends who built himself a good Pc last year also experianced the same issue! However after speaking with him today he did say he did eventually manage to fix it but that he doesn’t quite remember what he did, Said he will help me figure it out whenever he gets the chance but in the meantime i will search the interwebs! If i find anything that works or if my buddy figures out what he did and it works i will get back to you 100% with the solution (if i even find one). Seems like too many people are having this problem with little to no fixes!

i wouldnt say many people have this exact problem. You can find many reports of fps drop, stuttering, screen freezes that last for 1-3 sec or even 10 sec complete freeze but that is a different problem that is “normal” in high GRs especially when playing in group.

This problem however have a specific characteristics. While stuttering, fps doesnt go down, ping doesnt go up, its happening in a cyclical manner (at least to me) and it is happening everywhere, in rifts with no mobs on the screen or hundreds of enemies on one spot it doesnt really matter. It is also happening in town.

the only game that i play besides D3 is world of tanks and that game runs perfectly smooth with zero stuttering on almost max settings.

that’s why i stopped playing last time around ; i see it’s still an issue and they have no idea how to get rid of it

sure hope they get that stuff sorted out by the time diablo4 comes out , lol.

wow, division2, poe3.7, etc… all running buttery smooth at least. (albeit poe can experience some hiccups in extreme density, but thats normal an acceptable ; compared to d3 where itll happen even in town while running circles.)

diablo3, nope, forget about it. stutter city no matter what you try. googled for hours and tried fixes for weeks, nothing would fix it.

and now i see its still a problem LOL.
seems to be mostly nvidia users. nvidia forums as well as diablo forums are filled with ppl having the same issue.

*funnily enough its always ppl with recent systems that should be overkill for d3…

they should ask some of the wow guys to figure it out, (wow is so smooth even in a 20 man raid with lots of enemies on screen.)

from all the info i was able to gather and the things i did trying to fix this im like 100% sure this is a connection problem between my PC/router and blizz servers and has nothing to do with graphic drivers or settings nor it is hardware related

Hey there,

From my experience micro-stuttering like this can either be a connection related issue (packet loss or delayed packets between client and server) or an issue with RAM / memory management.

To look for connection issues such as packet loss, we recommend running a WinMTR test using the Diablo 3 server IP. Feel free to post the results here and we can take a look. (Note you may need to contain everything in the preformatted text which is the </> button in the posting section)

To look for RAM issues, or issues with other processes conflicting with the Diablo 3 client, try rebooting using Selective Startup:

  1. Press Windows Key+R.
  2. Type msconfig and press Enter.
  3. Select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items.
  4. Select the Services tab.
  5. Check Hide all Microsoft services.
  6. Note: Skipping this step may prevent your computer from rebooting correctly.
  7. Click Disable all.
  8. Click Apply then click OK.
  9. Click Restart.

Test the game again, and if you find that the stuttering has gone away you can go back in an re-enable things little by little to find out which program was conflicting with the game.

Starting from hop 3 and onward, there were some data packet loss.
That means some issue between hop 1 and hop 3 (I don’t know the healthiness of hop 2 because it was masked.)

As the IP of hop 3 is a local network address, it is possible an issue at a device within your home network. I’d suggest a power-cycle (off for 10 seconds) of all your network devices.

If the device is provided by your ISP, you may want to contact your ISP to help troubleshooting.

you have this same issue for a LOT of people since necro update, accross multiple systems ; while other games run flawlessly ; it’s a bit ridiculous.

it’s not network related. other games including wow are perfectly smooth with ~48 ping.

baffles me that YEARS later, over 2 new setups, this is still an issue ; and only in this game.

but guise reboot your rooter LOL
