Mercenary stops following

I have noticed that my mercenary will stop following me and the only way I found to fix it is to let the zone.

I have played D2 back in the day and I believe this is just the old AI clunkyness, hopefully the follower’s AI will be improved upon.

I noticed this also. In the original Diablo 2, the mercenary would just teleport to you once you were so far apart. This isn’t happening (at least not consistently) in D2:R. This could make the summoner necro very difficult to play. Summoned skeletons would usually teleport closer to you in this same manner, but typically revived monsters would die instead once they got so far from you. Using the teleport spell would bring your merc/summons directly to the space you teleport to, and that remains the same in D2:R.

Give your mercenary a decent weapon, armor, and support them better, and they might continue to follow you. Neglect them at your peril.

this might be one of the reasons why the necro is not in yet? :wink:
