Good afternoon.
Completed 78 GR in 10 minutes. Everything went quite smoothly, without any problems.
After which I raised 12 levels of the paragon and again returned to 78 GR and after about 20 races I still did not complete it in the allotted time. I was just hit with one shot, otherwise the damage wouldn’t be enough.
I didn’t change my clothes or my skills. It seems that the character has become stronger, but there is no point.
I can’t understand anything - why is this? What could be the reason for this?
Greater rifts (I presume they’re translated to Greater Portals in your language setting in D3) can vary wildly in how long it takes to complete them because of a number of factors.
The mob type is a big factor. Some are relatively benign and don’t hit too hard. Others can one shot you or chase you. Some are melée-only, and some are ranged. The GR level dictates how much health the monsters have, not necessarily how much damage they do to you.
The density can also affect how quickly you clear. More monsters in a level means more to kill and more progression.
The other factor are the maps and layouts. You might’ve had some really good maps with lots of mobs and space to murder them, or others had bottle necks and mobs hid in corners where you couldn’t find them. Or you might’ve got the Pandemonium levels with the shock towers than can one-shot you.
If it’s too hard to clear, I’d suggest lowering the level (no-one will judge you!) to get more loot more quickly. Alternatively, look at build guides on Maxroll or Icy Veins to help build up a more robust hero who can survive as well as slaughter monsters.
Good luck!
If you are struggling wildly, I’d recommend to take a video (Win+G on Win11 can do) and show us what you do. Maybe some people can look at your build.
Based on weekly challenges, I have a suspicion, which may help regardless.
Mostly I struggle with those. I find them awkward, weird, silly, stupid. Obviously they were successful, and many people including the weekly videographers succeed.
Typically they hinge on some quirky mechanic which deletes very specific types of monsters while absolutely fails with every other aspect: zero survival, zero damage.
In contrast, I usually run builds which simply keep going. I might be doing slightly lower rifts, but I’m extremely consistent. I clear absolutely any rift with very small time variance. Marauder DH, Tal Rasha wizard, Valor Crusader, stuff like that. Say, I settle for 10 minutes per rift, all of them will be 9 to 11.
The lesson - look at your build, is it too specific? You may like it, I think people call it fishing. You can finish bad ones on principle, or quit all of them. Heck, you may be awesome for group play.
E.g. I hate Rathma but very happy with Trag’Oul with skeletal mages.
Good afternoon!
It sounds like you’ve been putting in some serious effort! Completing a 78 GR in 10 minutes is impressive. However, I understand your frustration with not being able to replicate that success consistently, even after leveling up your paragon.
Several factors could be influencing this:
-
RNG (Random Number Generation): The layout of the rift, the types of enemies you encounter, and the placement of pylons can all significantly impact your success. You might have had a favorable setup on your initial run and less favorable ones afterward.
-
Paragon Levels: While increasing your paragon levels boosts your stats, the incremental improvement may not always be immediately noticeable, especially if the levels gained are not substantial.
-
Gear and Skills: Even though you didn’t change your gear or skills, sometimes subtle differences in playstyle or execution can make a difference. It might be worth revisiting your build to ensure it’s optimized for the GR level you’re targeting.
-
Damage and Survivability: If you’re getting one-shot, it might indicate that your toughness is lacking. Consider adjusting your gear or skills to increase your survivability. Sometimes sacrificing a bit of damage for better defense can make a big difference.
-
Playstyle and Strategy: Reviewing your approach to the rift could be beneficial. Small adjustments in how you handle elite packs, kite enemies, or use your cooldowns might improve your consistency.
Hope these suggestions help you out! Keep pushing those rifts, and best of luck.
