Just found out thru a bug that altar of rites is only seasonal? I don’t think that makes any sense at all given the QOL increases, the potion effects, and the wings.
So what happens next season when I fill it out? Does it give different wings? Doesn’t make any sense to fill it out each time and miss out on a reward because it only gives one pair of wings. Just seems like it should be permanent…
From the wording, it seemed like a continuous feature… utterly nonsensical and there is no justification for disagreement. It’s a simple change in the code, go ahead and do it. I’ll wait for the update.
The Altar is permanent, but only permanently in season. Yes, you do have to unlock it every season, but that is the same with just about everything in season.
If you are referring to non-season, I totally agree with you it should be in non-season. It was in non-season Asia for a brief moment, then they took it down. To this day, still have seen a blue response on why it was not added to non-season. Worst case, the QOL from the Altar should be added to non-season.
Looks like you missed the initial backlash when players found out it wasn’t activated in non-season. That post went on for like 500 posts and had something like 300+ likes for the starting post. Most I’ve ever seen.
I know Blizzard wants people to move to D4 but keeping D3’s NS a nerfed experience wasn’t going to achieve that.
As an example, I also play Mortal Kombat Mobile… it’s a f2p/p2w game (paying only to speed up your account’s progress since you can obtain everything with enough time). A while back, after enjoying the game for a certain number of years and seeing the devs had been putting effort into the game, I chose to spend a bit of money on the game to support it.
Of course, when they stopped doing discounts on the packs bought for in game currency and then limiting the number of packs we could buy at any given time (thus making it harder to progress), I made the conscious decision to not buy anything more from them.
It’s as simple as that.
Back to D3, for myself, had Blizzard improved NS with the Altar and Fissures, I think I may have achieved everything I wanted to in D3 with the exception of getting the cosmic wings and Wirt’s Original Leg. Having the Altar and Fissures in NS would mean that I could farm fissures whenever it suits me with what ever build I have put together already in NS and not have to be restrained to the one seasonal character I usually make (and thus restricted to the best farming build for that class).
If I had gotten my need to finish building D3 builds out of my system, I may have bought D4 already. I do wonder if any others feel this way too and how much more money and how many more D4 players Blizzard may have gained if they had done that.
I forgot about that. S28 was a long time ago and I never did complete the Altar.
I stand corrected, thanks.
I’d been too busy each Season trying to complete six Guardians for the pets I had missed earlier.
I never went back to finish the Altar before time ran out.
Unfortunately, it’s just a lack of will from Blizzard. In the Switch emulator, with a simple hexadecimal code, you can have the seasonal themes from 17 to 29 active all at the same time in NS. The altar out of season is something we all asked for at the time, but Blizzard simply didn’t care and didn’t want to activate it in NS, even though it works perfectly because it was active for like 5 minutes on the Asian server.
I hope they never add the altar to nonseason. It would significantly and fundamentally change what Diablo 3 is, remove wallers from the game, render strategies irrelevant e.g. navigating mobs, deciding whether to leave loot, make other hard choices including equipping Illusiry Boots, for that matter Illusory Boots would be irrelevant and also the cubed power. It’s also been a significant complaint that legendaries are too common, then Primals would be more common when they’re the last of the hard-to-find loot. Why have orbs at all? What’s the point then of Rondal’s Locket? Then if I don’t want gear picked up and auto-salvaged I have to disable my pet.
Altar is already in season and that’s where I play mostly anyway nowadays, the altar is always there. Please leave it out of nonseason. I enjoy going back there and enjoying the traditional Diablo 3 experience without the season boosts and elements. It would be ruined for me.
The game has already fundamentally changed by making it a permanent feature in seasons. The vast majority of players play seasons and NS is so neutered that it’s essentially a waste of time to play it when you are missing not only the seasonal power itself, but the alter and visions on top of that. Why bother playing NS when you are losing 50% of all primal drops, the 20+ GR power difference from the season buff + altar, and you are unable to farm resources effectively due to not having visions.
There’s really no reason to play NS.
If you want a watered down version of D3, you should ask for a D3 remake instead. Or even better, ask for a version of D3 where players can mod it.
I’m someone who NEVER wanted to make seasons the main way of how I wanted to play this game but they gated more stash tabs behind seasons, they gated so many cosmetics behind seasons, and now they gate further QoL from the Altar and Fissures behind seasons yet again!
With double primals and double bounties, and fissures being the only way to farm bounty mats and GR keys simultaneously, it’s just more efficient to pick one class to focus on each season, spend 2 weeks unlocking the altar, and then 10 weeks+ farming fissures at double primals. And if I wanted to take a break the next season, that would still be better use of my time.
Of course, the ideal situation would be for the Altar and Fissures to be in NS and then…
I wouldn’t have to organise life to facilitate me hitting D3 hard during those 3-4 months I’m in seasons
I would have access to all my NS builds to farm fissures efficiently everytime I chose to play
I wouldn’t have to deal with stash tetris at the end of the season as I would be organising my stash to be in its most efficient state as I go
Wouldn’t it be better to have the Altar and Fissures in NS and just have a reset button for the Altar? Even if the Altar required farming all the sacrificial items to unlock it again after being reset, this way, players who want the QoL of the Altar in NS can have it and those like you who don’t want it can have it reset.
I’m sure reset code is already in the game… the altar resets between seasons.
And even without a reset function, there’s no stopping you from not unlocking the NS altar assuming unlocking it in Seasons doesn’t carry this status over to NS. It wouldn’t ruin your game and would improve it for others.
Why be selfish and request for NS to remain boring/undesirable/ruined for so many others?
You make my argument for me and I need not ask for anything, Diablo 3 is already the game I have and love. With season and nonseason I have options. I have the option for the nonseason version, which I love, and the season version, which I love, most of the time.
And there are reasons to play nonseason: (1) when the season theme is awful, (2) trying to complete grift 150 without any of the season buffs, (3) when the servers are offline (I play on console), (4) when I want to level a nonseason hero.
Fortunately for me and others of a similar mind the altar will never be added to nonseason.
I think permanent altar would remove significant parts of the game, some of which admittedly don’t scale nicely with power creep (I don’t remember splatting too bad when T3 was the best I could do).
CC being one. Walls, slows…
For me most of the game is about overcoming these challenges. At the level of my ability. I enjoy dodging this stuff a lot more than overpowering everything until I get randomly splat from absolute anything.
5% damage is literally just power creep.
I would love a few perks to be added, however. Specifically the automatic pickup of items.
Which is the problem for me.
My playstyle is unfortunate enough that levelling and initial gearing takes too long. By the time I unlock the desired nodes, the season is over.
Consequently, even though I just got a mail from Blizzard CS that next season starts two weeks after I have hit GR90 (my max), I simply can’t make myself. So this ongoing season is the last one, folks.
