Looking for FACTS about Captain Crimson set bonus

Truth be told I do NOT understand all the math calculations, multiplicative vs. additive etc. I would just like someone to state for example, if my sheet is showing 32.9% cooldown reduction and 17.2% RcR how much is Crimson set actually giving me. I have yet to find any thread here or other sites that gives straight information. The set description is very vague with a “percentage of your CDR or RCR” HOW can I actually calculate or find out how much I am getting?!?!

All that multiplicative thing comes in when calculating your total cdr, rcr from gear/stacking. What you get from CC set (dmg increase and reduce dmg taken) is what is shown in your sheet (32.9% dmg increase, 17.2% dmg taken reduction in your case).

As for multiplicative thing. You get 10% cdr from paragon. If you get another 10% cdr from weapon, your total cdr is not 20%, but 19%. If you get another 8% cdr from another gear on top of that, your total cdr is around 25.5%. Same goes for rcr calculation.

Easiest way would be to remove it and see what you have. Difference is what crimson brings

The way CDR/RCR/DR work is you start with the biggest numbers first then go through the lower numbers. So for example if you have CDR:

20%
20%
15%
10%
5%

You’d add them in that order. Then if you already have CDR, you’d multiply by the remainder left to 100%, 1 being 100%.

20 + (20 x .80) = 36 + (15 x .64) = 45.6 and so on. So 64 + 36 is 100. You just put a decimal before the remainder and you multiply with it. The reason for this is so you will never hit 100% of anything.

Crimson reduces cooldown by 20% (* 0.8).
32.9 % CDR means your cooldown is 0.671 .
0.671*0.8 = 0.5368 so you CDR is 1- 0.5368 = 46.32%

Order is irrelevant in multiplication.

32.9% damage increase and 17.2% damage reduction. As you can see, the math isn’t too difficult.

i mean it’s 50:50
it either does or it does not.

This, basically. It’s not to hard to find out what you’re getting.

As your RCR is lower than 20%, I assume that you want to know how your damage and toughness will change when you add crimson to your gear.

Damage reduction (incoming damage)

That one is simple. Your incoming damage is reduced by another 20%. Even if the total amount of RCR is lower than 17.2%+20%, your incoming damage will be reduced by actual 20% relative to your current one. There is no diminishing returns here. If you take 100 damage now, you will take 80 damage when you add 20% RCR.

Increased damage

That one is more complicated, as there is actually a double diminishing returns. First, we need to calculate your new total CDR.
That will be (1-0.329) * (1-0.2) = 0.5368, so your total CDR with Crimson would be (1-0.5368) = 46.32.

In the next step, we need to calculate how this increases your damage. With 32.9%CDR your original damge is increased by a multiplier of 1.329. With Crimson, your damage is increased by 1.4632.

This is an actual damage increase of 1.4632/1.329 = 1.10, which is 10% more damage.

tl;dr

With your current values, Crimson gives you 20% damage reduction and 10% more damage. oopsi, that’s wrong. I confused it with another scenario, like “how much more damage will I do when I add 10% CDR to my CC3 setup”.

This doesn’t seem correct bottom line. Crimson also gives dmg reduction + increased dmg for your previous CDR / RCR.
In other words: before wearing crimson you had some initial CDR / RCR values, but not the Crimson 3pcs bonus.

Ah, yes, you’re right, thank you for the correction. I edited my previous post. It’s early in the morning here … need more coffee.
