I’ve seen a few LOD’s starting to pop up on the leaderboard and they all seem to have quite high paragon (4k+).
Is high paragon a requirement for this build to work?
Also I see a few LOD builds based on fire, however they still have Star Pact selected so I am very confused! Why fire when Star Pact is arcane?
Cheers
The reason why some builds are fire based while using Star Pact is likely very simple, they use Stone of Jordan.
Remember, SoJ takes the highest single element buff and applies it to all elements available for the class.
1500 paragon is enough to clear 150 without any issues. Unity is better than SoJ at low paragon.
Any elemental damage will work, it mostly depends on luck with gear. Fire is better because of Cindercoat ( % extra fire and RCR to Explosive Blast ). I was very lucky with fire, got primal fire SoJ, Cindercot, pants, bracers, and crafted Squirt’s Necklace. 115% fire atm solo.
Ah ok that makes sense thanks.
Do you think LOD has an easier time of 150 than Tal?
In my case - yes. LoD gives a very simple gameplay. The only problem ( significant for hardcore ), all these huge defensive buffs ( 80% OID, 80% Karini, stacks of Stone Gauntlets ) require a specific position to be active.
Do the Stone Gauntlets ever freeze you up? I remember playing another class years ago and kept getting frozen by them then dying.
Stone Gauntlets work fine in seasons. Altar grants 100% immunity to crowd-controlling effects - stun, slow, displacement ( except the most annoying Wormhole ), fear, freeze, etc.

That makes sense. You said above that LOD is a simpler gameplay. Can I ask how so?
I am thinking of farming up the remaining pieces for a LOD build and wondering if it is worth it ie if it is easier and has a higher potential / easier time of 150s than Tals?
Cheers
I’m using this build since season 31:

Thanks to the Shame of Delsere Barrier Blades gain energy very fast, and Bane of the Stricken works fine at 3,53 APS. Star pact hits really hard at full or almost full energy, you can just spam meteors into a dense crowd of monsters without waiting for 5 stacks of Arcane Dinamo. Actually, Dinamo is questionable here, but probably better than anything else.
P.S. Dark Mage’s Shade isn’t a mandatory requirement and can be replaced with any wizard hat or Crown of the Primus/Slow Time instead of Back Hole at low paragon.
I managed to put together a similar build but with witching hour and Primus hat. Full augs, super tanky but I’m finding it just doesn’t have as much punch as standard Tal with squirts and witching hour.
Sheet damage is 9m vs 12m for Tal. I’m currently trying to get 149 and am switching between the two builds to try them out.
Primary test is how much trash they can clear in order to generate a pylon and the LOD is taking me considerably more time to make progress.
I do like how tanky it is, and you don’t have to worry about Zei’s distance.
For some reason I was thinking that LOD was going to be a bit more grunty than Tal, but that’s not the case from what I am seeing at least.
