LoD gear question

hi,

With a rank 99 lod gem is it better to equip a below par ancient over a great legendary? For example I have a great pair of normal stone gauntlets max CC 48% CD and 19% area dmg. Would it be worth swapping for an ancient to gain the gem bonus if the ancient is more defensive in stats? (I’m aiming for more dps btw).

In theory and im terrible at maths isn’t it a 375% dmg increase?

Swapping one ancient to normal legendary, assuming you have 13 ancients, results 9375/9750 = 0.9615 or less than 4% damage loss.

If the normal legendary provides more damage than that, swap it.

Great thank you mate, can I ask why isnt it just a straight 375% for example you can get a scythe of the cycle that increases secondary skills by say 375% isn’t the two the same thing?

It’s 375% of your base damage, not of the 9000% damage of the other 12 items.

Each non-ancient provides 375% damage.
Each ancient / primal provides 750% damage.

So, the difference between an ancient/primal and a standard legendary is 375%.

With 13 ancients/primals you have 13 * 750% = 9750%
With 12 ancients/primals and 1 standard legendary you have ( 12 * 750% ) + ( 1 * 375% ) = 9375%

The difference is therefore between 9375% and 9750%, i.e. 9375/9750 = 0.9615

That scythe is a multiplier of your base damage. At an extra 375% damage this means your skills do 475% damage (your original 100% plus the extra 375%) so it’s a 4.75 multiplier.

At 9750% LoD gives you a 97.5 multiplier.
At 9375% LoD gives you a 93.75 multiplier.

So, scythe at 375% and LoD at 9375% is a (4.75 * 93.75) multiplier = 445.3125 mulitplier.

Thank you:)makes me wish I paid attention in maths class many years ago

Wait until you try to calculate cooldown. You’ll go crosseyed.

I have a better question; why does it matter? You’ll eventually find a worthy ancient and until then you’ll be steer clear from serious pushes.

Considering their main stats are equal normal quality gloves will give you roughly 9% dps increase compared to a glove with no crit rating affixes. When calculating the ancient bonus you have to consider the whole thing and calculate the bonus relatively; 375% dmg increase, doubled for 12 pieces but last piece being another ancient instead of regular adds about 4-5% without any offense affix. So, unless you lack ancient quality items in more than one piece, it doesn’t worth swapping a good regular equipment for a defensive ancient piece.
According to my calculation it doesn’t worth it but again, you eventually gonna find a worthy equip with that abundant drop rates anyway.

No, having an ancient or non ancient has effectively very little difference, as shown above with the less than 1% gain. That 1 ancient pieces isn’t gonna make your build clear any higher GR tiers anyways, that’s the entire point.

Again it is always better to have the right proper affixes on non ancient gear, that any ancient pieces of gear, except for weapons.
