Leveling needs to go!

It’s the most tedious part of the game and is just a grind every season. Just let seasonal characters start with fresh 70’s and go from there.

Kinda have to agree…. I usually wait a week or two before I start my season and then fish for a PL.

After the 200th time it’s not fun haha.

But then you need to do season journey for headrigs gift. They need to also give us the set, better yet, headrigs gift always needs to be the OP set or lod set, plus like at least 800 para to start off.

I just wait a day after launch and get one of many available power levels.

So, tell me, when you’re sat in town with a naked level 70 hero, how are you planning on killing any mobs? Is the next thing you want handed to you a full set of gear at hero creation too?

Exactly true.

I’ve had guys ask for a pl in HC saying that’s all they want.

So I get 'em to 70 and say in chat “Have fun stay safe!”

Next thing that guy will chat back to me, after I’ve left his game is, “What’s your highest GR?”

Now I know what he really wants!

what brain lvl i must reach to understading wht lvln is useleles

Levelling in D3 is nothing. I am slow and took maybe 3.5 hours to hit 70. When a session lasts 3 months, 3.5 hours is nothing.

Go play POE and see how bad levelling is in that game. Literally have to play through the campaign every league to reach maps (POE version of rifts and GR)

This. So much of this.

Some of these kiddies wouldn’t last 3 hours in PoE, even if they take time to actually research the game and delve deep into it.

If we had THAT kind of system, where death and gear and RNG really matter, I could maybe be convinced to change my mind. Maybe.

Levelling is fine in D3. It’s been fine for a long time, and I don’t see it changing any time soon.

I got season journey done this evening. Could have completed earlier, but was together with family… So I got another 3 months + some days before this season ends. Leveling might be tedious for some, but it can be easy enough

Everyone has preferences. Personally, I enjoy the leveling process. Because you only get one shot at it per season (per server).

For my group, this was our best season ever. We hit 70 roughly 40 minutes in, and that included a couple of mistakes which cost us time. And apparently I also learned something new this season too. On Asia, I actually forgot to cube my item I rolled from Kadala, and even without it, it was about 75 minutes to 70. Compared to PoE, that’s nothing in terms of time.

A lot of the leveling just comes down to your strategy and how much you’re willing to practice. And if you don’t like leveling, or don’t want to practice, that’s perfectly acceptable. But the leveling process is not nearly as bad as it’s been made out to be.

You could buy gear from vendors and craft at the Blacksmith.

You’d be totally screwed if you weren’t able to do the challenge rift to get gold/materials to get you started though. I suppose you could run around getting repeatedly one-shot, avoid all enemies, and find chests to get some gear. Sounds miserable.

Would be pretty unfriendly to casual players. If they don’t know they need the challenge rift materials, or don’t spend them wisely, it’d ruin the season for them. Starting at level 70 and being unable to do anything would be a really bad experience.

They should instead lower XP gain by 90%

From level zero to paragon twenty thousand it’s a grind. At least for the first seventy levels it’s a different grind and if you don’t cheese it there’s some challenge to it. I started within a couple of minutes of the season going live and due to horrible RNG and sheer ennui I have achieved level 58 in eight hours of play. Life’s a journey not a destination.

For those in a hurry they could make an almost impossible challenge rift called the trials of the Neo-Maxi Zoom Dweebie to skip to level seventy. Think of the bragging rights.

Powercreep and powerleveling are so high and unlimited respec with fast changes between builds make a fresh start meaningless, that player forget, it should be an important part of the game.

Remember the good old times of D2 or D3 vanilla, when leveling took weeks?

They can always give an Lv70 character with default Lv70 generic yellow gear.

This all depends on what type of game you’re developing.

D3:ROS is an endgame oriented game. It has item lockouts, “infinite” progression systems and in-game means of shortening the leveling experience. If all you knew was playing through the story on normal or hard you really haven’t experienced the game as designed.

Many older games, like Diablo 1 and 2 have no real endgame they just let you play. Many over the years saw that as a flaw and as a result a LOT of games sought to remedy what they saw as a flaw with the game by adding endgame elements.

Neither of these designs should be seen as inherently good or bad as both approaches has their detractors. It’s hard to do both really well.

Current Seasonal D3 has a third option via the challenge rift cache. This turns the leveling experience into a puzzle to be solved. Many seasonal players come back every season primarily for this experience. How fast can they hit important breakpoints like 70, Haedrigs, Primals, or the Season Journey. These players come back season after season to see if their new strategies and practiced skills can improve their times.
