Let's guess what D4 will be like

Will Diablo 4 be a ARPG ? Or a MMOARPG ? Will it be like all previous versions that are game purchase only or will it have purchase plus monthly sub or MTX riddled ? With Blizzcon fast approaching I called the phone mobile announcement before last blizzcon so I am curious as what people think D4 will be like.

For me I believe it will be a MMOARPG but with a twist. Maybe more like a hybrid. There will be a main quest that is solo but also there could be things in it that require groups like world boss’s , trials or raids whatever you want to call them. There could even be world events where the demons flood in. My reasoning for it to go MMO is monetization of Diablo which has been a problem for a while and this would solve it. Plus it would keep the Devs busy to keep adding content which we all want.
Some things I would like to see in the game for sure are players being able to put there own stats in, runewords, PvP of some sort, Diablo2 music score, also the violin at end of ROS, darker theme, no boss fight announcements. Let us have some surprises. That is why the butcher was so good because you were in a dark dungeon then out of nowhere BAM he was twice as fast and hit like a ton of bricks or in D2 I remember the knock back the snakes did in Lut Gholein a lot of times you did not even see them just wham. Give us a surprise stop with the UFC announcement crap. Whoever idea that was do not let them have any more ideas. Tropic Thunder comes to mind went full retard. You never go full retard. Just as they did with the D3 bonus level unicorns floating clouds. LOOK Cow level had a purpose. Was a great place to LEVEL and find base items for your runewords. Never kill the Cow King. Bonus level in D3 had no purpose at all, went full retard.
Just a few ideas off of me now if that Kotaku article is correct which I tend to believe it is. Kind of a way for Blizz to get info out and save face after last years disaster. Get back to a gothic darker back to its roots. But please for the love of everything great with gaming leave personal politics out. Keep it a fantasy game. A lot of people go to entertainment to get away from that every day crap to relax. Hopefully soon we will know something but do not count your chickens as this is Blizzard.

Do you have a phone?

I would be fine with it being an mmoarpg, as long as it is not open world. instanced maps/dungeons/elite areas, and open hubs. Great.

If D4 project had started, it may only have a logo and some fuzzy concepts. Don’t expect to see it within 3 years.

If it can be done, UI side D4 will be mobile and console friendly from the very beginning, which will make it easy to migrate. For us PC players it may bring a little inconvenience but I would still expect a better overall experience than D3.

Balance side, however, will be awful if not worse during the first year. This is actually the nature of modern PC/mobile game development: game companies won’t make a game perfect before release. They relaease earlier to make money and then make patches and patches. If you want to play a more complete game you’d better start to play when the console version is released.

Talking about guesses , I have no clue and it is kinda useless to guess. We will get what we will get when it’s ready.

What I want? A true dark/gothic ARPG back to the roots sequel with many improvements and new stuff that will blow my mind (in a positive way of course  )

Also, I’d really rather this game be built on a “PC core” rather than all rounded so that it could be easier to port later… It might end up being half as*ed in this case and even feel more catered to consoles. This is definitely not the experience we are waiting for so long.

It will be a huge mess at least in the early stage of the game, some people will love it, some will hate it, like with D3…

Good one  Yep, might actually turn out to be true.

If it is still ARPG I believe you’ll get a similar game experience to D3 on PC, while things like grid-style backpack and stash (which is mouse friendly and controller unfriendly) may be replaced with a more common backpack that every item takes one space.

If it is not ARPG, however, I don’t think it will have the name of D4. It’ll use another name so that a failure like D:I won’t kill the franchise.

D4 could be a B2P with cash shop. Where the items in the cash shop is purely cosmetic. Then the devs could continue to fund the game by adding in new microtransactions to D4 that would be in the form of cosmetics, possible character slots and stash space.

Since this game wasn’t designed to have new content added to it for the entire life of this game. So D4 would have to be designed that way. If it is not then there will be a time when Blizz feels that they are done with adding new content to D4 and put it in the same boat as this game.

I highly doubt that D4 will have player created stats.

The butcher was announced by he himself saying Ah Fresh Meat. And you knew when you were at his door.

According the Blizz North the cow level was created as a joke. They never intended for it to have a purpose. So it is the same as phony land. Only phony land is more obvious as far as being designed as a joke.

The Cow level had a purpose even if made as a joke. It had high enough level monsters and 3 different tier levels to where it became very useful. A lot of people got their base swords and shields there to use for runewords. Plus it was great for leveling and MFing. D2 still was darker and had way more surprises in it than D3. Why did the boss also have to be eighty feet tall ? And so many many load screens crazy. But hope Blizz does it good if like D3 again diablo will fail. D3 seems to me to be design for speed runs only. How fast can you complete this rather than have something challenging.

The blog post today reminded me of something - D4 has to come with a different end-game mechanism totally diffrent from GR pushing, otherwise it’s just a D3 remastered and will suck. I don’t know what it is, but I know the other D2-like games failed on it. Surprisingly there is no D3-like game - perhaps random GR is too complicated for most workshops?

End-game mechanism is the core of an diablo-like ARPG, so new games will be a “failure” like D3 1.0 before ROS if there is no new mechanism. Some D2-like games seem successs but IMO that’s success as challengers - they won’t be considered so good if they bear the name of Diablo.

I’m hoping for a Hellgate London 2038 style of game. Top down is getting old.

This would be a big risk…

MMO for sure, like 100% sure, because it opens many more possibilities for grouping. The question is whether it will be:

  • Top-down view like previous Diablo games
  • Changable camera angle like other MMO games
  • 3rd person view like FPS games
  • User selectable with all previous 3 options

I hope we get the top-down view or at least an option to use such view. Fixed 3rd person perspective will be a skip for me. I don’t enjoy FPS games.

honestly, a mess.

a hot mess filled with micro transactions no doubt with a free to play style market in yet another full price game.

Who knows, right? But I do hope they change the shield mechanics and make 1 handed weapons and a shield a thing again.
