No ONE, I MEAN NO ONE - Wants to buy a battle pass.
Overwatch 2 is getting creamed by critics. Same as Diablo Immortal.
Jesus Crist…when will Activision no longer be in control of Blizzard.
I am going to (along with 1,000 of others) blast any and all attempts you guys do at monetization. Battle Passes, Mounts, Tmogs for gear … all make me sick.
YOU EARN THOSE IN THE GAME!
God I hope you guys fail. I guess I should say Diablo I hope you guys fail.
As these games show, when implemented properly, a Season Pass can lead to a consistent rise in monthly player spending, or at least notable surges in revenue upon the release of each new season, without negatively impacting typical monetization levels prior to their introduction.
I do not spend any money on the D($) battle pass nor do I see the need to do it in D4. I do think they are very greedy but it seems to be paying off for them. As long as some people have money to burn.
My stance regarding monetization remain the same, if a game is f2p, then I can tolerate heavy p2w elements to a substantial extent (not that I’ll pay for much of it). On the other hand, games that you purchase, I’m not as lenient and if it has heavy p2w elements, then I simply choose not to play the game. Now if Diablo 4 keeps it’s monetizations strictly to mtx (that offers no power and/or in-game advantage), along with it’s occasional expansions, then I’d have no issue with it.
And judging from their blog pertaining to their monetizations, that seems to be the case. However I still remain cautious, as like many things regarding the game, that’s subject to change.
Well, the times that the big studios at least made games for gamers are already 20 years gone.
Maybe until 2002 it still went in this direction. Of all the people who once made Diablo as a game for themselves and for their players, one after the other have left Blizzard.
Why are these games such dazzlers and interchangeable in terms of content?
They have the purpose of being a commodity that can be sold for maximum profit and, best of all, still yield more money every day, while being easy to “expand” in order to make permanently large profits with the least effort.
This has been the case for a long time, even before D3 we could see where the games market was heading.
Of course you also try to serve the players and bring everything under one hat. But it swings all the time over all another main goal and that is, in the end it must be maximally profitable…
Why else are the games now so flat and feel like dazzle like in Las Vegas?
But how will the poor game publishers survive if they can’t get enough to people to buy the same individual games several times over? Bobby’s 8 figure bonuses literally depends on it.
You can’t expect anyone in the actiblizz C suite to actually give up such perks as private chartered flights whenever they want to travel do you? Having to sit packed in with the rest of us losers is just unfair. And this is just one example.
You can just believe all that extra money is going to the people putting in the hours actually making the games even though it isn’t, if it makes you feel better.
This is how it’s always been forever even before the internet and even electricity! At least that’s what the “this is the future!” boot lickers say, or something.
So we need MORE monetization! Making games deliberately designed to manipulate people into spending as much money as possible is what’s fun in this modern age. Just buying a game and expecting it to be complete is garbage for boomers. So get out that credit card and come join the future!
Coincidentally a few former Blizzard employees recently talked about how much ATVI truly was in control. To no surprise for most of us, the answer happened to be; a lot of control.
With especially HotS and D:I as the direct results. Whereas D3 was, according to these sources, designed before ATVI took full control. Which unfortunately also mean the RMAH thing can solely be blamed on Blizzard themselves.
Speaking of RMAH, those same people said that RMAH made very little money for Blizzard, supporting what some of us had also expected.
I always expect the worst, so if they do go beyond that with D4, I won’t be disappointed and instead would simply move on to another game. Makes things a lot simpler imo.
Anything other than buying a full price game is just a scam. Be aware of that especially when you see free to play games. But times have changed drastically and it is a shame that companies like Blizzard with millions of fans are going unethical monetization ways as well. I wouldn’t even consider suggesting Blizzard to people I know ever since Diablo Immortal was published. Imagine someone getting addicted to that game’s casino mechanics and ending up spending thousands of dollars for gems or whatever they indirectly sale.
Do they make more money selling stuff? Of course not. They might make more money from specific players on the short term but that’s just about it. The money lost from players driven away because of it are more. The money lost due to hurt reputation are way more.
D IV should have a retail price tag. The game will be supported for years to come and new content will be added. Of course this needs to get paid as well. I think that 15,00 $ per season would be fair. Anything more than that, such as cosmetics, will only damage the game and on the long term return less revenue than a game without them would do.
Will I buy D IV? I will. On the other hand I am thinking on giving up gaming as a hobby. Speaking with friends, many of them feel the same as well. Gaming is changing and becoming something I just do not like anymore: Battle passes, cosmetics, bag slots… etc…
What’s coming next?
Which is not. EA and ActiBlizzard are still one of the most profitable game companies today. Clearly, all those so-called bad reputation talks have no effect on them. People still pre-ordered WoW expansion despite all the bad rep WoW has, and those who hate current Blizzard will still going to buy Diablo 4.
