Legendary gems in Archon build

Season 20, Archon build (see profile?) anyway, reading from Icy Veins site, he says that you could/should/maybe switch out Gogok of Swiftness for Zei’s Stone of Vengeance… I tried searching but couldn’t find anything here about which would be better. A) Gogok stacks CDR which saves time between Archon forms OR… is the increased damage a BIGGER increase to take down mobs faster!!! I do have a Zei’s I am leveling up along with some others for better augmenting, currently at level 80 so 10% damage increase for every 10 yards. Also… have never seen anything about how you can tell distances, it says 10% for every 10 yards BUT… for example how big is the slow time bubble? 10, 20 yards!!!

I can’t answer which gem is going to be better for you…

However, here is a distance indicator you might find useful.

cool!! thank you… it appears the bubble is about 30 yards then or about that. so approximately 30% just inside the bubble area… I am going to do some comparison at gem level 85 and run about 5 rifts with each to see how much of a damage difference vs recovery time

Update: unscientific results both legendary gems at 85, 10 GR 85 each gem, Gogok average time 4.702 minutes, Zei’s 4.84 minutes…so not seeing a damage improvement for me at all… gear isn’t awful isn’t great Seasonal toon is Chelan, CDR is 53.5%(in game says 58.5%) or so… if anyone has constructive ideas I keep trying Kadala for better or primal items but…that is always a long shot

Slow Time has a 20 yard radius (so 40 yards from side to side).

It’s actually pretty useful for measuring things in game.

Chantodo’s Wave goes out to 30 yards (it actually says so in the set description).

Those times are slow for your paragon/gear level. At 950 paragon, those times are more what you should be looking at for GR100 clears. GR85-90 should be in like the sub-3 minute range at your paragon/gear level. Might be a playstyle issue? Archon is all about density, you don’t want to fight single enemies, like ever. Unless it’s a lone elite you are finishing off. Single skeleton? Nope, skip. Pack of 50 mini spiders or vile swarms? JUICY. Mmmmm, stacks. If you don’t feel like you are frantically moving forwards looking for density, you aren’t speedfarming properly with Vyr’s. Killing every enemy you run into will make your clears take WAY longer. Your average stack count ends up way lower, so you have less DPS, so stuff takes even longer to kill. Gotta find that density. Killing more stuff means more progression at the same time, and it means more kill stacks per Archon rotation. More kill stacks means more damage, which means you kill stuff even faster. Density is king. You live and die by your stack count.

Your gear is okay for the most part, but you are missing crit rolls on a number of pieces (gloves, CoE, amulet). Keep trying for better gear. That amulet was a waste of an augment, even a non-ancient int/CHC/CHD/socket amulet would be better. CoE is also very mediocre. A 195+ non-ancient would be better. Especially if you have a CHC/CHD/CDR/socket non-ancient.

You are also using the wrong rune on Archon. Change it to the cold rune. I’ll spare you the long version, but despite the set bonus, you need to match the rune to your elemental type. Otherwise you don’t get your elemental damage bonus on your Chantodo’s Wave. You are losing 20+% damage on your Chantodo’s Wave by not having the cold rune. Especially when you get big Black Hole pulls. Gotta match the rune element to the element type on your gear. So in your case, you need the cold rune on your bar. Having the wrong rune is a massive damage loss.

Also, what’s the third item in your cube? It’s not showing in your profile.

EDIT: And no Oculus Ring on your Templar! That’s a huge damage loss. It’s really easy to make use of Oculus circles with Vyr’s. You really need an Oculus Ring on your follower.

Cubed, Furnace, Swami, In Geom for cool down, switched Archon rune to slow time for cold. always trying Kadala for better gear, but… she is being CHEAP. Will be on lookout for Oculus ring for Templar. I agree crit chance and damage are both low… trying for better gear. I have cleared a GR93 but it’s getting a bit tougher. Probably right about play style issue. It seems that IO am mediocre player, never have cleared a GR100 on ANY toon… just missing fine points or something??? Thanks for the input, I will see what I can do about getting better gear.

It might be helpful to watch some videos of other people doing speed runs and push runs to see what they do different. E.g. Cratic made this video on PTR leading into the season:

You don’t need to pay so much attention to what he is saying (although it’s worth a listen), I’m mostly just linking that video as an example of how to speed clear with Vyr’s. Notice how much he is on the move, how many small enemies he skips etc.

It something that comes with experience, knowing which trash enemy types are worth good progression and which trash enemies just aren’t worth killing because they aren’t worth any progression.

Umm… HOLY crap!!! I was almost getting dizzy watching him fly around, not sure how he is moving that fast continually. but I get the idea of going for the larger groups and the elite groups. I have issues with the down time only @ 54% cool down right now and taking time getting back into Archon, sometimes I can’t get to an elite group fast enough… that’s a part of the problem. current crit chance 47%, damage 353%… things to work on! but did I mention HOLY CRAP!!!
