After a hiatus of several years, I’ve resumed playing D3. Some stuff, such as legendary gems, is entirely new content for me (or old content that I never saw when previously playing), although I’m sure this stuff is old news for many of you so forgive the elementary level question…
Yesterday I got the Legacy of Dreams legendary gem and after upgrading it to a whopping level 7 (+30% damage dealt and -2% damage received for each equipped legendary item) and putting it in an amulet, my damage shown in the inventory panel is not increasing.
With gear equipped and nothing in the amulet socket: 394k dmg.
After placing the Legacy of Dreams legendary gem in the amulet: Same
I’m currently wearing 6 legendary items and no set items. My math tells me 6 * 0.3 = 1.8 ,so I’m expecting my DPS to soar, but no change!
Is it really working? I haven’t gone out and fought monsters with it in or out and timed how long it takes to kill something…
.
I’m seeing something similar for two other pieces of gear (for these I’m not expecting my “overall” damage or DPS in the inventory panel to go up by these amounts, just the relevant skills under details):
With Wand of Woh equipped (it gives 393% damage bonus to explosive blast), but when I go in the details panel in my inventory, explosive blast says 14% damage increase (which comes from another item). Why not 393+14?
With Ranslor’s Folly equipped (it gives 272% damage bonus to twister) the details panel again doesn’t reflect this.
Blizzard has never updated how their damage or toughness calculations work with anything since the beginning of Reaper of Souls. But your actual sheet damage does not matter, you just need to go out there and test your damage to see the numbers make sure to go into your settings and turn on the Hud displays so that you can view it.
The damage info on the character sheet is worse in D3 than D2 and it was really bad in D2. You need to use like D3 planer or some other third party calculator to properly figure out the real damage you are doing.
Make sure the LoN set is also not equipped…be nice of you could put both together though. LoN with LoD…I have been using LoD with a DH build (uptil a couple days ago and it was working just fine…even after the patch)
Uh…are you sure about that? You might wanna quadruple-check that.
LOD boosts damage dealt + reduction for every non-set legendary you got equipped. Bonus is doubled per ancient…
Yes it’s working. The damage boost is simply not shown in your character sheet. It’s annoying, yes. But it does show the damage reduction in your increased Toughness. Damage reduction from bonuses like that is always shown, including from Crimson set.
You can also hover over your resistances to check to see how much damage reduction it’s giving you. The first % number is your DR from your resistances, the second combines your DR from other sources. If the LoD gem is your only active source of DR, it’s easy to see how much of a benefit you are getting.
E.g. you can see here I’ve got 52% (with some rounding error in game) from a full 13 ancient LoD.
Now here I’ve swapped to Aquila, for an additional 50% DR. That combines with LoD and shows 76%, but if you know how to do the DR math you can work backwards from that, e.g. 1- (1-0.52)*(1-0.50) = 76%
Even the 2 piece sets are counted as sets. It doesn’t need to be a full 6 piece set. So even focus & restrains cancels lod. You can use one green item if you want but never 2 of the same set that when combined provide set bonuses. Hence, you can see some LoD builds using Tal Rasha chest piece for example because it can roll with attack speed and it is ok cause only one green item is not affecting the lod gem. It can also be one green item from tal-rasha and one green from Krems for example, but never two (or more) of the same set.
