While I’m not an authority on specs, it’s a better system than I’ve got running the game. Dual channel ram is suggested, for an upgrade.

Change the desktop resolution to 1600x900, or 1280x720. Then, launch the game. Reduce the Resolution Scaling (you’ll find this setting in options in the game launcher) to 75%, or below.

You should be able to run it fine on medium video settings without lag, if you follow these steps. Happy Trails!

You might want to read some reviews of it… laptops are often not great for gaming and D2R is currently noted to cause excessive video card heating and not to work well with integrated graphics.

This article here talks about the Inspiron 15 3000 with slightly lower specs than yours, but references and compares with other laptops and Inspiron models. If you are thinking of buying it, really do your research first. It is a budget laptop, not a gaming rig.

It sounds like you have the better version referenced in the article

If, on the other hand, you can add $30 or so to your budget, the Inspiron 15 3000 becomes substantially more attractive when configured with 8GB of memory and an Intel Core or AMD Ryzen processor, as well as the higher-resolution version of the screen. These are the configurations that most shoppers should aim for.

This seems to have info on your video card and comparisons with other cards and game scores https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-RX-Vega-8-Ryzen-5000-GPU-Benchmarks-and-Specs.539159.0.html

Better does not really mean great for games though. Oh, and a helpful hint. If you game on a laptop you MUST have a cooling pad with active air cooling. It will get too hot otherwise and you will shorten the lifespan.

I say this from my 2013 Dell Alienware on a Cooler Master. I have been gaming on it exclusively since then and …no issues except that the vid is now JUST a tiny bit too old to run D2R.

Last article, because you now have me researching laptops. Heh. This is the PC Gamer 2021 list of laptops which might help with comparisons.

True. Also, keep in mind that there is a memory leak issue, if you open your inventory, and keep it open for more than a minute(maybe even more than a few seconds). This will also heat up your system, and could crash the game.

I’d suggest never opening inventory while in combat, and just seek potions as they drop. This proved to be quite effective, when I was up against an angry Unique Mob of Possessed, Champions, etc…

Also, be sure that you have a mercenary to watch your back, in case you get mobbed. Don’t try to take them alone!

I did not have that issue…at all. My Desktop is a hand me down made of parts from others who upgraded years ago.

i5-3570K@3.4GHz
GTX 970
16 GB RAM

Temp on it was well within specs and I had no crashes. I did a lot of inventory tetris and opened it under all sorts of conditions.

I just did a search here for memory leak and it pulled up 75 posts, dating back to August of 2019. There is certainly an issue, and it seems to have something to do with software drivers. When I repeated the search, with -razor and -chroma, I got zero results. Not sure why.

My game crashed at least 3 times, just as I was making room for a really nice drop. If I were paranoid, I’d say that someone was playing some serious looting hack. Each time I was either dropped from the game back to the lobby, or the game would simply freeze.

Even zoomed in, with medium settings, and Resolution Scaling set to 50%, the game could still crash when I so much as opened my backpack for a potion.

My guess is that the resolution scaling doesn’t apply to the inventory textures, and that’s what’s causing the memory leak. Since it’s a static display, the rendering component isn’t regarded as priority in the rendering engine. Just a guess, though.

Yeah…but D2R was not even available to test until April 2021 so I don’t think those memory leak posts would relevant to D2R (which is what this thread is about).

Not saying you are wrong, just that you might need to narrow down your search.

I did not have any issues - solo games. Default settings which the game selected as Medium. I did not touch any of the resolution settings or anything. Maybe that was why?

Thx for Yours answers. I play all Blizzards games on my old laptop like D3 SC2 Hearthstone with no problems at all. My laptop is Intel(R) Core™ i3-3120M CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz, 12,0 GB, graphic cards Intel R hd Graphics 4000 and NVIdia GeForce 710M. I could`t play beta becouse of black screen crash like meny others. But I thinking about to buy laptop like in my question. Mabe it could run on this one on medium setings. Thx and Regards.

Okay, so you’re running at 3.4GHz, which is optimal. Your GTX 970 is an actual gaming Video card. And, you’ve got 16 GB Ram (is it dual channel?). So, yeah, you’re gonna run allot cooler, because of the lowered wattage requirements on that 970 with the Maxwell technology. Plus, you’re cooling with an external device? Is that right?

So, you’ve got a true gaming computer, which beats my Asus Q55l by a mile. I’m running a i7-55u Dual Core 2.39 2.40 GHz, with an Nvidia GeForce 940M side by side with an Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Laptop).

So, cooling issues are much greater because I can’t simply open up the case and install a supercooler. However, My system is low power, and doesn’t need all that much cooling anyway.

A neat trick, is to open Task Manager(CTRL+ALT+Del), and view your computer’s specs from in there. Click the Performance tab, and you get a nice pretty display of all of your gear, and what it’s doing.

No idea. I did not build it. This is literally hand me down parts from 2 years ago.

Not for the desktop. The cooling pad is for the laptop. The desktop has whatever was in the case which is nothing fancy - in fact is not even anything I really noticed and and was quiet the whole time. I assume it has a case fan and I am sure the card has some fans on it.

I know, that is how I checked the temp on the graphics card after reading about the heating issues. I did not want to screw mine up!

Apples and Oranges. How did it fare on your Laptop, Miss Cheetah?

As I think I said, I can’t run D2R on my laptop. It is from 2013.

i7-3630QM @ 2.4 GHz
8GB RAM
GT650M
Intel HD 4000 (onboard graphics)

So, that graphics card is JUST below the cut off. I got the Alpha to start but it flickered along on the first screen at about 3 FPS. So it was unplayable.

Min Graphics for D2R is

I did the comparison on the GTX660 with my own GeForce 940M, and it’s bad. The GTX660 has more available threads and better texture library than my GeForce. Nevertheless, I was able to run it, quite smoothly, once I lowered the Resolution Scaling to 50%.

Basically, I’m running this game at 1600x900 on a High Definition monitor (TV), which outputs through the Intel HD Graphics 5500. That card, is definitely below standards, but because the game is rendered on my Nvidia GeForce, lowering the internal rendering made all of the difference!

It’s also a good thing, that I like to play zoomed in! It feels like Diablo 1, and that was a very fun game! Spooky, dark, scary, and boogie men at every turn.

I could see details of barrels and cobwebs, and all sorts of nasty things in the dungeons. I had to zoom out to see the treasure, but it was fun, playing zoomed in!
