I have two computers at the house and would like to play Diablo III with my daughter. I can’t find the settings to set up a server so that we can play with just the two of us.
I saw the “Public” Game, and thought that might work especially if it is aware that the two computers are on the same network and reduces traffic.
I don’t want anyone else joining the game but my daughter… she really doesn’t like playing with strangers. Is that going to be a problem?
Both computers must be online and connected to Blizzard server with separate accounts.
You can then play a Private Game together and no strangers will join.
LAN is not an option in D3
As yessquire said, add your daughters battlenet# to your friends list, create a private game and then invite her to join you. You’ll never see another player. You’ll see the general chat going on in the lower left chat dialogue, but that’s all.
p.s. - no such thing as dumb questions, only dumb answers. We were all new players at one time or another. Have fun.
Also, once your daughter joins your Private Game you both should only see the Party Chat (you and your daughter). If not, you can open Chat and manually set it to Party Chat. She can do the same. If you’re still seeing the General Chat and don’t want to, just press the Enter key and type /leave general to leave the General Chat Channel. (It will stay that way until you and your daughter join General Chat again).
public game means open to the public, thats basically anyone.
i think it was already mentioned but not sure, D3 can only be played online not over lan like d2 can. but as others have already said just invite your daughter to your game and start a private game.
You may also want to go into settings and disable friends “quick joining” your games. If I remember correctly only “real id” friends can join, but it is possible for someone you’ve added to your friends list that you know in real life to instantly join the game with that setting enabled.
