Joseph Piepiora - Why he is in D4 team?

From Heroes of the Storm wiki:

Joe Piepiora was the Lead Systems Designer on the Heroes of the Storm development team. Joe Piepiora is responsible for designing and implementing game features that players interact with outside of their matches, including player progression, social features, matchmaking, and competitive play.

HOTS social features are the worst in MOBA industry and matchmaking is terrible.

Not sure how much he was involved for real but this 2 things are part of the main reason why HOTS was a big failure.

Anybody know what his role in HOTS was exactly?

He is Associate game director for Diablo 4.
It is a big red flag for me.

I just thought i’d scuttle any hope you have for D4, as he’s making tweets like these

The game has been in development for several years and the open beta will be up soon.

Why are you concerned about one guy on the team at this late date?

Because he is really high in hierarchy and each time I play HOTS I feel like I want to kill the guy who designed “social” features.

I will not cancel my preorder but man…

What has this one person on a team of 100s done that you do not like in D4?

I did not play D4… I played Heroes of the storm. Did you play HOTS?

That is what I am saying what have you seen so far in D4 that he is responsible for that you do not like?

I do not care about HOTS we are talking about him and D4. What has he done that you do not like in D4?

I am afraid of what I am going to see because he is part of the team. And now answer my question. Did you play HOTS?

I do not play HOTS nor do I care about HOTS. We are talking about a totally different game (D4) with a different team. You did not answer me what did he do in D4?

Why are you action like a complete moron again? I told you that I did not play D4. So dont repeat same question that I already gave you answer to.

If you did not play HOTS I dont see why you type here.

Do you think he did good job in HOTS, that should recommend him for high position in D4 team?

Where you ever involved in job interviews? Would you ask a person about his pervious experience before giving him role on your team?

I’m interested in seeing how different open beta will be in comparison to closed beta.

I’m even more interested in seeing how the different the released version of the game is compared to the open beta.

But you did not even play HOTS so you dont have a clue what you talk about.
But yet you have balls to insult and ask same stupid question I already gave you answer to.

And yes if you ask same question it is an insult. Stop action like a dumbass.

I am not entirely convinced that bad social features are worse than good social features in a game. At least bad social features might mean they are less impactful? Maybe?

Btw, in which ways are the HotS social features bad?

Eh, I like him already.

I am even more interested in how different Diablo 5 will be compared to release Diablo 4 (let’s continue this one!)

I will be eternally more interested in how many times Brav will quit Diablo 5 before Diablo 4 is even released.

For example it is a game where you can be banned for typing “gg” in chat.
Game that will matchmake you as a solo player vs full premade team.

They tried to implement performance based matchmaking (because they did admit their matchmaking was bad)

They have put a lot of resources into it, and then 1 week after its release it was disabled… Big fail. That was one of the last nails in the coffin for the game.

Don’t let that old goat wind you up. He is sadly addicted to the forums and you’ll find his meaningless twaddle on practically every thread on here at the moment. He’s worse than Bravata, tbh. At least that guy tends to stick to his own silly threads.

HotS is/was a great game. It was not a complete disaster it made them money, but not enough. And I was feeling with the new unique characters, etc they could turned the game around. HGC was amazing. But they should catered more to the amateur scene.

What they failed at was their monetization. Three complete drastic changes. And of cause matchmaking had a deficit.
