So after playing for days I finally figured out that D3 has been changed beyond all recognition, For instance you can no longer max out resistances even with one of the elemental amulets and or a Mara…Also now there are far more duel and Tri elemental attacks are very common…Even if your toons almost 800 paragon and you add almost 200 points to all resist
It’s not a bug. And I don’t know what you mean by “max out resistances”. Nothing is really changed as you seem to imply. There is more to toughness and survival than just resistances.
Actually you used to be able to max out your one resistance…USED TO BE Mara’s gave max poison resistance for example and there was one for each of the elemental damages…BUT Only one or even two if you wore one on the toon and one in the cube, But that was before now they only give partial protection and only at lower lvls…
The single element immunity amulets still work as they always did. But nobody uses them (generally speaking) because we will always encounter several types of elemental damage. Maybe in the old days one would put on a Mara’s for fighting Ghom but later the max torment bosses are no problem any longer.
Mara’s USED to be effective against Ghom,Belial,Cydaea,Hamlin and one or two others as well…However the Fire Immunity amulet USED to useful against the Butcher,Asmodan,Mathael,Diablo…And you used one of these amulets against what ever damage type most concerned you…And most of the time that was poison however some were more concerned about fire or lightning
Malthael has a deadly cold damage so fire immunity won’t help (Cydea also has physical a google search showed). I would think that fire immunity against the Butcher won’t save you because the bosses have several damage types. Nobody cares about immunity to single elements in this game.
Belial for example also has several damage types…
This type of amullet can be used for dungeons, but otherwise…
For more resistance, on your demon hunters, you should use diamonds in chest and pants. It’s also recommended to use a combination of two pieces of the Guardian set (crafted level 70 set) with RoRG in cube or at least Wraps of Clarity bracers and also fit in Hunter’s Wrath belt and Depth Diggers pants. There are also different weapon combinations possible. Like Yang’s bow and Ninth Cirri equipped and Dawn in cube.
He/She’s not wrong tho Too Many Words
The Star of Azkaranth amulet is, in my opinion, the only real practical amulet to wear if you want to sport any type of immunity. And it’s really only of value if you play hardcore.
The prevalence of fire damage in the game exceeds that of all other types of elemental damage by several orders of magnitude. There’s fire-chain mobs, mortar mobs, fire constructs, moltens, fireball shamans, fire grates, furnaces, meteors and a few others that I can’t think of. With Azkaranth, you can essentially ignore a lot of nasty mechanics (i.e. teleporting mobs with fire attribs) in your runs. It allows easier positioning as avoidance is less of an issue.
I use the Star on my Hardcore Demon Hunter and it’s saved me more than a few times. Because I don’t push leaderboards, I feel Squirt’s to be more of a nuisance than help. This is because Squirt’s confers the ability to die an ignominious, one-shot suicide far too easily, especially from Reflect mobs. And with Azkaranth, you don’t have to maintain stacks.
(As an aside, I feel that the need to rely on using Squirt’s for most character builds is probably one of the things I dislike most about D3. Quite honestly, they should do away with the penalty as maintaining the stacks is enough of a chore.)
The rest of the elemental damages are much easier to skirt around than the fire. The only issue with Star is it’s relative rarity as a drop and the fact that it’s harder to get a well-rolled one because of this.
My two cents. Or in this case, wall of text.
TLDR:
Star of Azkaranth can be a life saver in HC. But true masochists will still use Squirt’s.
A badly rolled Star can still be worn in the cube tho…As I often do with other jewelry and wearing better rolled amulets in it’s stead…One of my personal favorites is the Ess of Johan as it gives my Demon Hunter the equivalent of Whirlpool
It’s an issue if your build requires RoRG.
I wear the entire set at this point as I’m sure the cat does…However the RORG Does give other options
Mara’s works just fine and can be useful for builds that have to stand still.
IMHO, Poison is harder to avoid than Fire.
Easy to test. Equip Mara and go to Paths of the Drowned and stand in a Blood Pool.
Mara’s was NEVER effective against Belial. That’s because he doesn’t do poison damage. Never has.
