Is LoD whirlwind possible?

I know it is possible but can it be any good?

Obviously certain pieces like Hexing Pants and Mantle of Channeling are required but it seems there could be a lot of different ways to make it work? Would seem silly to use Ambos and Lamentation etc when I could just be using Waste set. So I guess I’d use Cassius belt for Iron Skin duration? I guess boots and gloves would be Ice Climbers and Stone Gauntlets. Skull grasp ring and Band of Might, Obsidian ring in the cube? I guess if it’s Fire whirlwind I can use Cindercoat. Mortick bracers of course. Any ideas for weapons?

…open the leaderboards for the current season, select barbarian, no 6 pieces, select any of the season, season hardcore or season solo tabs. The top position in all of these leaderboards is a LoD whirlwind built.

Have fun!

No, it is Hammer of the Ancient build. They only use ww to move around / stacking stricken gem.

It is possible. If it is any good, not compared to Hammer of the Ancient, but try it out

Oh okay, thank you. I will check that out. I seem to remember using an awesome LoD Rimeheart/Ingeom Whirlwind Avalanch Snowcapped Mountain build but things need to die in 15 seconds after first elite or it kinda sucked, but otherwise it was awesome maybe I’ll do that one

Pure ww lacks multipliers… With paragon still can do GR. But thats more for 5 digit para.

Skull grasp is not a multiplier (edit its changed long time ago)

Skull grasp is 400% multiplier on whirlwind isn’t it?

My bad, i forgot its changed to multiplier a while ago, so edited my original comment. It used to add % to ww rune base weapon damage. Nevertheless, pure ww lacks proper supporting multipliers to compete. But you can still optimize to the best of your interest. Attack speed affects ww damage (tick rate) significantly. One problem for LoD is lacking bul kathos blade where its multiplicative IAS is substantial to WW breakpoints.

Yes, yes, yes…

But…

The topic is / question was " Is LoD whirlwind possible?"

If I get a bit more inspired I may try to re-built one of my old LoN WW-Barb “classics” (haven’t played barb in a while…) and make it an LoD one for this season. Had LON chars of all classes that were capable of farming the highest rifts. So now after all these years, and with the help of LoD set it should be achievable…

But you wrote this :

Which is not true. They use ww to stack stricken gem and move around, but the build is Hammer of the Ancient…
I know what the topic is, you made a mistake. Simple as that.

Since Whirlwind lacks the supporting Legendary powers to be a favorable choice, I believe you should start with Wastes Set instead of Legacy of Dreams. You can use Bul-Kathos’ blades, Crimson’s Set pieces, Bastions of Will Set, Skull Grasp or include anything you fancy with Wastes Set.
At the other hand I imagine a LoD spec for Whirlwind can include both Mantle of Channeling, Hexing Pants and Broken Promises together but it still won’t quite reach where Wastes would be.

Everybody makes mistakes, even me and you. But to call my “assumption” a mistake is best said, err, wrong / incorrect.

Not to knitpick, but the hota built will not reach 150 without ww…

And just in case… No need to start a thread war over this. Or like Karlsson-on-the-Roof always said: “Det är en världslik sak.” (Translated as “Not worth bothering about.” in the English version)
(Karlsson-on-the-Roof, a book (one of my favorite ones, 50+ years ago…) written in 1955 by Astrid Lindgren. Some more great quotes of Karlsson can be found here: https://www.bookey.app/quote-book/karlsson-on-the-roof.

You still wrote :

Simply wrong. It is not a lod ww build. It is a Hammer of the Ancient build using ww to move around and stacking gem.
There is a huge difference.

Just in case, stick to the subject.
