I havent seen anyone use it since season 1
Frenzy set: hold my
Blackthorne set: hold my first, my last, my everything.
Firebirds Bazooka was bazooka before LoD and the meta trash clearer before all the meteor items were buffed.
The answer is: Yes, at least in regards to mechanics.
I wrote a whole thread about what is wrong with it and how to fix it in wizard forum a few month ago if you are interested:
Yes, Firebird is a garbage set for Wizard.
First of all, you lose your “power” immediately the moment the elite dies. What kind of BS is this? At least made it a duration based like Bane of Powerful.
more like FireTurd amirite?
I think the idea is forcing Wizard into using BotP gem or Firewalkers anyway.
I really think Mirror Image should be tweaked to deal fire damage with Mocking Demise skill rune and a few other MI related items shall be buffed. This way at least Firebird can be T16 farm viable when paired with Hydra or Explosive Blast specs.
May be before that we get a Mirror Image related set? Who knows.
then, probably, you did not play during Season 6. it was one of the most sought after build during the “firebug exploit” that was allowed by blizzard.
I’d say rathmas is the worst, some clunky mechanics coupled by being overshadowed by the lod version of it.
Firebirds isn’t that clunky, in most cases you’re hunting elites anyway, what is though is that the damage is all damage rather than just fire, which could have solved a lot of things. If the damage bonus was focused on fire, then it could push mammoth hydra and meteor swarm forward with enough damage bonus.
But as long as it buffs all elements, there’s no chance it’ll get a damage boost.
At least Rathma is a decent substitute for Singular Mage run until you got LoD. Firebird is completely useless even for a starting set.
Well, playwise it’s not that great, it has the function of early rat runs though which is its main saving grace, but other than that…
I cant remember the last time I saw a Firebird Wiz, its been like so damn long ago, its almost like my memory is fading away making me think that I never even saw it lol. This is why the class sets needs to be looked at again for balance, most of them needs buff to damage and/or toughness.
Definitely agree. Easily my most hated set in the game.
Never liked it.
Imo, it’s current iteration makes it one of the worst sets in the game.
Firebird definitely is the very worst set when it comes to mechanics. One essentially has to ignite an elite and drag it around, micromanaging it to keep it alive or one loses both damage output and mitigation instantly. It’s very gimmicky playstyle. It needs a complete redesign yet again.
obviously you guys didnt know what firebird was like when it first came out. it
s not just garbage, it`s even worst then that.
There’s no denying that imo.
Hope the redesign won’t get even worse than current Firebird.
They need to redo this set. No questions asked. The stacking mechanic is garbage, even more so because DR is also tied to it. Not to mention the ignite crap. It’s either too strong because mobs die too fast or too weak because the max buff of 4000% is not even half of LoD making the set outdated and obsolete.
From my point of view, they might want to keep the burning enemies theme. BUT (!) they need to keep it simple and straightforward. That means they should tone down the max stacks to something like 5. double the maximum damage buff (at least) and untie the DR from the stacks… well, maybe like this:
(2) piece bonus
Doubles all Fire damage (seperate multiplier) + Reviving Meteor
(4) piece bonus
After attacking with a fire skill, gain 60% DR and ignore all fire damage dealt to you for 8 seconds
(6) piece bonus
Conflagration lasts forever and deals 3000% weapon damage as fire every second. Your damage dealt is increased by 1250% for every conflagrated enemy within 50 yards around you, stacking up to 6 . Burning elite = max stacks, obviously - and damage buff lasts eight seconds after death of enemy.
EDIT: fixed typos
True enough. Even a simple generic set that outright increasing the fire spells damage for Firebird is still better than making a weird mechanic just for the sake of being different.
