I really like melee classes in games like Diablo or WoW, but I really don’t want to play Barb.
When I was scrolling through the classes page of the D4 website, it says Rogue can excel in long range and close range combat. With that being said, I have yet to see a single once of melee rogue gameplay, it’s all ranged stuff.
help?
From what’s been shown in the Diablo 4 trailers
Druid has melee abilties via shapeshifting (bear or wolf forms)
Necromancers will have access to scythes (along with swords and daggers), although I’ve no idea if they’ll have melee attacks via it.
Rogue has melee abilities via daggers I believe (like a dash slash ability or flurry of stabs):
Rogue’s trailer showing some melee abilities
So Rogue, Druid, and Barbarian have some melee potential from what’s been seen thus far.
Now as for whether there the classes can use a wide variety of melee weapons in combat, then yeah, that might be something only for the Barbarians (sadly imo) as of right now.

Barbarian is pure melee. Druid is melee+caster. Rouge is ranged+melee.

Thats why we need that 'Knight-like" class. It will add more melee goodness. But that won’t happen for a long time.
Edit.
Probably would be a hybrid of Melee + Caster class like the Druid. UNLESS it’s full-on melee with NO casting like the Barb. But then that would be a Barb in full plate armor using a sword and shield. That won’t happen. YUP. Barb will be the only pure melee class. Unless it can throw stuff. If it can, it’s not ‘truly’ a pure melee class.

I’d still like the Sorc to have some dedicated melee builds so I can get my spellblade on, even though I know it probably wont happen.

You can make a full on melee rogue and druid. You can be a melee/magic hybrid Necro.
Looking at the Druid play, I actually like the way the handle shapeshifting. However, there is a difference between watching a video and seeing the character in a ‘front view’ vs. playing the character in a ‘rear view.’ So, it kind of defeats the while temporary shapeshift when doing a really cool mele attack. There really is a lot to deal with to make D4 a good game and stand out/be different from D, D2, & D3.
It has done more than enough to feel like it’s own thing with obvious influences/callbacks to the previous games. My limited experience with it was already the best Diablo experience I’ve had. The game is just fun. Some stuff I would change, but it doesn’t detract from the overall experience.
I certainly hope the barbarian can be a ranged character if desired as I really like the idea of heaving massive axes from a distance, and maybe, just this time, it is done right.

How many axes can you carry to throw or will you retrieve the ones you threw to thow them again?
At least 10 can be carried, depending, and they can be reused. But, in a world of magic and sorcery, why not assume they reappear or at least return to hand?
D4 should have the following melee classes currently:
Barb, Druid, Necro, Rogue, Sorc
Sadly, due to Blizzard being Blizzard, I dont think this will be the case.
But presumably Barb, Druid, Rogue are all very much melee classes.

Whatever i’m only dorking around. As long as it isn’t too silly i guess it will work. I just don’t want to see a sorceress melee non magic class or anything like that.

There’s a weapon throw skill yes.
Overall, I am pleased with the Diablo franchise. I agree, it’s fun to play. I like it a lot better than WC 1-3 and all the WoW’s. I have faith that D4 will be a good game. Still not feeling the mounts tho.
Melee? Be it Barbarian or maybe Rogue (slightly) and Druid (kind of), I don’t care. Barbarian will be my first, just like D2 and D3. Not a Barbarian, but I started with the Warrior in D1 back in the day when I was kidling.
Good times.
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWR!
Edit.
Please do Weapon Throw justice. Axes and/or spears? I don’t care. Something. Make it a weapon too, not a rock. It’s a Barbarian, not a Cave Man. Barbarians have evolved their stronk.
Oh, the irony of asking for range capability on a melee class.
Rogue can be full melee as well as druid. Not sure why you think otherwise.
Because I didn’t get into the closed beta and there is absolutely no gameplay footage of either.
The druid was melee in its reveal trailer at least.
I am definitely more concerned about whether Rogue will genuinely be melee or not.
And of course, much more so, whether Sorc will be.
Im telling you I made one.
