Information needed

I have finally made it to level 70. My weapon rating is over 3000 damage. Even though I have over million credits there are no weapons to buy which are stronger than what I have. No matter how I manipulate my skills I’m still unable to kill Malthael. I can hit and run but within minutes he’s catching up to me and instant death. Any idea what else I can do, how can I survive, even just to last a minute more before I’m died

Not enough info to give any advice. No profile to look at. What class are you playing? What skills are you using? What armor, etc…? Are you playing seasonal or non-season? Campaign or Adventure?

looks like the Taiwan profil is right. at least it matches the 3000 weapondmg on the lvl 70 cruisader. The profil look like he tries his first playthrough and he dies at Maltael. I would recomend to tone down the difficulty. i can’t believe it should be hard to finish malthael on a lower difficulty or if all goes wrong then on normal with lvl 66-70 gear. After you finish you first playthrough you can gear up in adventuremode.

Ah, his Taiwan profile wasn’t showing earlier for me. It is now (typical armory hijnx). I don’t play Crusaders, so not my specialty. But looking at your gear, if you have enough gold and materials, go upgrade armor at blacksmith to some level 70 stuff. Looking at your Passive skills - Divine Fortress increases your armor according to your shields Block Chance. You’re not using a shield… Towering Shield increases damage of Punish, Shield Bash and Blessed Shield - you’re not using any of those skills. I forget the name of the passive that allows 2 handed weapons and shield (Heavenly Strength, or something like that? As I said, Crusader not my specialty) Also not sure if Steed Charge is going to do much good against Maltheal?

Just a few small tweaks can make all the difference. Good luck.

You should swap that Leoric’s Signet to any level 61+ ring. That thing’s stats is way too low because it’s a level 27 ring.

In D3, level requirement for gear tells how strong it is. So if you are level 70, you want to be fully decked in level 70 gear. Anything below 61+ is way too weak for a level 70 to be wearing even while starting out, because gear stats get a sudden increase in 61+.

Thanks guys for your input. I followed your advise both in shield and rings. My armour is much higher than what’s available at the blacksmith. I was unable to work out/improvise the skills. I faced Malthael and successfully survived, but at around 33% to go I’m instantly dead, suddenly as if someone threw a switch. All the crafting hasn’t helped. Either I’m missing something or doing something wrong. There’s a lot of reading to do and don’t understand or I’m simply just not good enough.

Your profile isn’t showing for me. But the answer is fairly simple.

You aren’t using good-enough items to create a better synergy with your selected skills, and increase your Toughness and overall damage.

If you’re stuck in Story mode, just lower the difficulty to Normal in order to complete it and then unlock Adventure mode so you can start gearing up via rifts/bounties/grifts.

MolaRam, You aren’t using good-enough items------------yes I thoroughly agree. I was told that I need the Darklight or Gyrfalcon’s Foote in my main hand, and a Hellskull or Jekangbord in the other. Off course the question is where and at what level will I find these weapons.

I’m still struggling to work out the ideal skills. I am in Normal mode (hence the reason I think I’m not good enough) and in story mode it will not allow me to change to Adventure.

I thank you and others for your input but it just looks like I’m at a stalemate. I’ll keep hammering away but I very much doubt I can succeed. I’ll continue playing in the same area hoping I’m able to pick up better weapons.

I cannot see your profile. Make sure you have a green gem in your weapon for more damage. After you get to level 70 put legendary gems in rings/amulet. Make sure to use your paragon points and get items in the cube. Also use your 4th passive skill. Get your 3 best legendary gems leveled to 25 to unlock the 2nd ability.

  • Remember sheet damage is not that important, you want to get everything to work together.

You are stacking armor on a strength character, you need resistances for a balanced damage mitigation. Only one or two pieces equipment of yours have resistance to all. Stacking armor on top of strength won’t give you any serious impact on your damage mitigation, but stacking some resistance on top of your strength will give you intended effects.

Damage mitigation grows logarithmically in the game and it has some sort of diminishing returns if you try to overstack it. While overstacking defensive stats has an effect to your effective health (Toughness) it won’t give you any serious jumps. For maximizing the effects you need to push both defensive layers while also increasing your maximum health instead of ignoring one. Way later at the road, you ought to think about defensive secondary abilities that appear on some equipment to optimize while giving away vitality stats. For now you have to stack maximum health and extra damage mitigation.
That’s what happened to your Crusader; you stacked armor and strength with little to no resistance to benefit from and too low vitality. Your items don’t have enough strength either, you need strength stat on a strength character to deal more damage per hit.

Your shoulders, belt, torso armor, pants and boots, need resistance to all and vitality affix at their primary, as they supposed to be defensive pieces also upgraded at least to a rare piece instead.
Your gloves, rings and amulet need to have Critical hit Damage% and Critical hit Chance% on their primary and single specific (physical, lightning, cold, fire… etc.) resistances at their secondaries as they’re offensive pieces. Your helmet and bracers need ChC% too with any secondary affix to your liking. Again, those pieces must be upgraded to rare quality items which is yellow and at least have 4-6 affixes

If you upgraded your Blacksmith to level12 please spare time and craft a few pieces of armory or weapon from him after farming low difficulties. Try to craft rare items from each equipment piece first and farm more again. Although results will be random, I believe it will help at the long run rather than plain magical items you use with only one affix.
When you did all these you still have a long road ahead by upgrading gear to Legendary and fitting Set items then hitting Greater Rifts to grab and upgrade legendary gems. See you, until then.
I can’t believe I wrote all this detailed paragraphs, I reckon you’re already bored and gonna quit the game soon to our surprise.

gonna quit the game soon to our surprise.------on the contrary. 30 minutes after posting my last post I re-adjusted my settings and went and faced Malthael. I found a weakness and exploited it. He can’t hit me if I’m behind him and much to my surprise I killed him-----yippy. Thanks guys, really appreciated all your input. Cheers

Grats! Now your real fun can begin in Adventure Mode.

If you haven’t visited them yet, go to maxroll . gg or icy-veins . com. They’re good resource sites for tips and tricks to look for and build suggestions. Of course nothing there is written in stone, so adjust their recommendations as you see fit to suit your play style.

Yes a new adventure starts, don’t be surprised if I’ll cry out for help LOL. Once again thanks for all your help/advice.
