Infernal Machine ring vs Amulet "glitch"

I am a lvl 70 (Paragon 48) character. I purchased the Plans for the Internal Machine Hellfire Amulet from squirt. I know it was the amulet because squirt had the ring and the amulet. The ring was $2million and the amulet was $5million. I paid the $5million. I didn’t give the plans to the jeweler (level 12) right away because I hadn’t collected the crafting elements yet from fighting the 4 portal bosses. So I went about collecting the crafting elements. After getting the crafting elements, I went to the jeweler to give her the plans. In my inventory, I no longer had the Hellfire Amulet, I had the Hellfire Ring. I went ahead and got the ring (which actually worked better because I have a 3-piece set which included an amulet so exchanging the Set Amulet for the Hellfire Amulet would have lowered my set to a 2-piece). However, I am wondering if this is a glitch/ bug or a meaningless issue because the ring is the same as the amulet. I hope I didn’t pay $5million for the Amulet and instead got the $2million ring.
Thanks

Squirt has 3 HF plans for sale. Amulet, $2M ring, and $5M ring.
The $2M ring is for basic game(no RoS) only.
My guess is that you bought the $5M ring plan, not the amulet.
Probably a good thing because you would not have been able to acquire the needed mats for the $2M HF ring.

According to your profile, you are wearing the $5M ring (explained by yessquire).

A quest in “Destroyer” chapter of season journey is to craft a HF Amulet. You’ll need the plan sooner or later.

Someone prefers HF amulet because it grants a fifth passive skill.

Thanks yessquire. I guess anything is possible, but I am 99% sure I paid for the amulet, not the ring. BTW: I upgraded it at the jeweler to get 8000 life per hit in exchange for critical hit chance of 6%. Sounded like a good exchange.

At this point in your development, it may be a good choice, though I think you meant Enchant at the Mystic.
Later on, the HF ring will lose it’s effectiveness and will only be good for your Follower or to help raise another Hero (because it is a level 1 item).
You can check at the Jeweler to see if he has the plans by selecting Show All instead of Have Materials in his drop down box.

You are right. Enchant at the Mystic. OH, didn’t know HF ring was just a lvl 1 item. It says its a lvl 70 item. Maybe I am not understanding what you mean.
BTW: what does it mean when an item is “account bound”? To me, i thought it meant you can’t sell it. But I sell account bound items all the time. Also, should I avoid picking up those stupid items in a loot drop that tells me it can’t be sold. Doesn’t look like they can be upgraded or exchanged either. They just end up taking up slot space.

The HF ring and ammy can be equipped on a level 1 character.
There are very few items that cannot be either sold nor salvaged.
Account bound means that if you get it while playing in a group, it cannot be given to another player.
That includes any legendary that you get from Kadala or from a Bounty Cache.

You shouldn’t be selling items at all. Gold is plentiful, especially when you get to the higher Game Difficulties. Players usually salvage items at the Blacksmith for Crafting Mats.

The only items I know of that cannot be sold or salvaged are the components used to craft a Staff of Herding. If you already have a Staff of Herding and you pick up extra Staff Mats you don’t want, throw them on the ground. The next time you “Leave Game” and restart, they’ll be gone.

Thank You, Perusoe. I have a “Black Mushroom” that I can’t sell or salvage (got it real early in the game) and a thingy that looks like a test tube filled with rainbow colored liquid. Are those the components for the staff of herding?

Correct. The Black Mushroom and the Liquid Rainbow cannot be sold or salvaged. Hang on to them if you do not have a Staff of Herding. Throw them away if you do, or you don’t want one. If you find more, you don’t have to pick them up. They will always drop from the same places. Whether they drop or not is random.

Yes. You may already know this: The Staff of Herding is used to open the entrance to Whimsyshire. (Not to be confused with Whimsydale, which is only opened by killing a Rainbow Goblin).

In case you’re interested, to craft a Staff of Herding you need the following:

  1. Black Mushroom: Act I, Cathedral Level 1.
  2. Leoric’s Shinbone: Act I, Leoric’s Manor.
  3. Wirt’s Bell: Act II, purchase from Squirt the Peddler.
  4. Liquid Rainbow: Act II, Dahlgur Oasis, Mysterious Cave Level 1.
  5. Gibbering Gemstone: Act III, Fields of Slaughter, Caverns of Frost Level 2. Kill Chiltara.
  6. Plan: Staff of Herding: Act IV, The Great Span, Kill Izual.

Teach the Plan: Staff of Herding to Haedrig the Blacksmith like you would any other Plan. You can do this any time. It will be listed on his Weapons tab under Staves. Once you have all of the other 5 components and 50,000 Gold you can have one crafted.

Note: You must have the Staff of Herding in your Character’s Inventory to get the Ghost of the Cow King to appear. Talking to him will get you access to Whimsyshire. When not using the Staff of Herding, keep it stashed for your other Characters to use.

Just to add to Perusoe on Whymsyshire…

The map is correct. You can only find this in campaign mode, not adventure mode.

In the same menu where you choose campaign mode, you can use the drop down menus to select what part of the campaign you are doing.

As long as you select a part of the story on Act 1, after you get Leah to open the gate to the church, you should be able to access Whymsyshire.

You can access Whimsyshire in both campaign and adventure modes.

I didn’t realize they changed this. I remember when I first got my staff, I couldn’t get Whymsy to appear, until someone in the forums sent me to campaign. It’s always worked there.

But, did you remember to put the Staff in your Inventory before you went there?

One of the first things I did when Adventure Mode was added was run Whimsyshire. I’ve never had a problem with it… in either Mode.

It’s so long ago now. This is during season 8, which is when I made the move from vanilla on PS3 to ROS on my computer.

Why should I get access to Whymsyshire? Any game advantage to doing that (e.g. a rare/legendary drop you ONLY get in Whymsyshire)? Or is it just a “cool” place to go. I looked at the Staff of Herding in the Blacksmith plans, but it is a lvl 1 staff. I didn’t know about it until I was already a lvl 70.
Thanks

Honestly? You shouldn’t. Especially since Blizzard made the components to craft the Staff of Herding so rare. Particularly the Gibbering Gemstone. The only reason to farm Whimsyshire would be to collect the Rainbow Portrait Frame. And even that is not really worth the work involved to get it. Most of us players got our Staff of Herding when Whimsyshire was first introduced and getting the components for it was much easier.

These days, players farm for Rainbow Goblins. As stated above, killing one will open a Portal to Whimsydale. There you will find tons of Mats, including Forgotten Souls and Death’s Breaths. Plus, a ton of loot: Legendary and Set items too.

Don’t forget: More than one Rainbow Goblin can spawn in a game, but only the first one killed will open a Portal to Whimsydale. After killing the first one and looting Whimsydale, “Leave Game” and start a new one.

Thank you Perusoe. I recently killed a Rainbow Goblin and went to Whimsydale. What do you mean by, “After killing the first one and looting Whimsydale, “Leave Game” and start a new one.” Do you mean start a WHOLE new game with a new char starting back to lvl 1? Every time I leave the game for the day, I push the “Leave Game” button and start a new game the next day. So maybe I don’t know what you mean. Also, are you saying by doing that you get another chance to kill a Rainbow Goblin and go to Whimsydale?
Thanks

No, he means just leave and restart the game. That will reset all the areas and dungeons, as well as bounties.

There can be a maximum of one instance of Whimsydale, and once you kill and loot everything, that instance is used up and even if you find another rainbow gob in the same game, it will not spawn another instance of Whimsydale.

You really don’t need to restart your game after looting Whimsydale. Rainbow Goblins are not that common. I’ve been playing for years and used to play for several hours without restarting. I never got two RGs where the second led me back to a previously looted Whimsydale.
