Improving MOTE/LeapQuake

First of all, let me say I enjoy leapquake. It has a unique playstyle. In the last patch, Might of the Earth got a nice boost with Blade of the Tribes which improved damage quite a bit. That was a great step in the right direction, but I think it’s still missing a little something to make it more compelling to play. Some of my suggestions are (it doesn’t have to be all of them):

  1. Instead of earthquake doing damage-over-time, have an item that makes all of it instantaneous. Perhaps add it to loot socks or girdle of giants.

  2. Give the set itself a damage reduction bonus. Free iron impact is cool but it’s not enough. My biggest pet peeve is how squishy it is. Especially in low paragons. Yes, you can slot in APD, unity, BOM, etc, but it limits your offensive and misc. abilities. Adds flexibility to builds.

  3. Think of some way to speed up boss fights. The attacks are so slow that stricken takes a long time to stack. Perhaps another damage modifier to single targets?

Anyways, I like the set, but it really needs a little more juice…

1: This wouldn’t make you do any more damage. Actually, players like me who use Zei’s would do less damage. It would also ruin the aesthetics of the set.

2: MOTE4 is already the strongest defensive set bonus Barbs have, by a large margin! It isn’t just “free Iron Impact”… it’s Iron Impact with its strength and duration considerably increased.

I mean, we don’t look at Rend Barb and say “well, they could take Strongarms instead of Morticks and SoJ instead of BoM, those defensive options are hurting their dps!” We just accept that some slots need to be allocated to defense.

All EQ Barb really needs is MORE DAMAGE, easily done by jacking up MOTE6.

3: Sure, you could add some effect that shortens RG fights a bit. At some point I suggested adding a power to Lut Socks that made Leap deal damage equal to a small % (like 0.25%) of the target’s current life when Leap hit 5 or fewer enemies. That would bring RG fights down to Rend-level time, which seems reasonable.

I will have to disagree with you about the defense. Wastes is far tankier along with barb passives and WW related skills. When I think of wastes, defense is not an issue.

That’s because of the extra defensive items that Wastes uses. Wastes also heals like crazy. If you just compare MOTE(4) to Wastes(4), you get nearly twice as much defense from MOTE(4).

That’s my point. MOTE needs some of that love too.

What? What “love” are you talking about? Extra defensive items? You can already equip those!

Quake vs WWrend is about a 5 level gap. The bigger issue is how do we as a class compare to others. If you think about how difficult our top clears are as well. WWrend and quake are two of the biggest fishes in the game if not #1 and #2 due to area damage and very low single target damage.

Use Parthans and BR and you’ll be much, much tankier.

All the build needs is more damage plugged into the MOTE 6 bonus and it will be on par, or very nearly, with Rend.

that love/ extra healing, some defense. thats what makes mote squishy

Yeah, definitely a lot of fishing there, though I’m trying to think about other classes…

So for DH, GoD is obviously top dog. They have most of the same density issues. And for the boss, even more issues with single target RGs.

For WD, top is still Mundunugu, right? I think they are pretty fishing-heavy, if I remember right. And, like Leapquake, need a super long time for the RG…

For Monk, still Tempest Rush Sunwuko? A lot like WW, but with more single target burst damage. But, they also probably stack Stricken slower than WW…

For Crusader… actually, I have no idea about Crusader, Necro, or Wiz these days…

Let me say it again: MOTE(4) is nearly twice as good as Wastes(4). As for healing, you could always take LPFS on your weapon, and BR:StP!

I think part of the issue here is that you’re thinking of damage and toughness as disconnected. They aren’t. I mean, imagine they increased MOTE(6) from 20,000% to 2,000,000%. Well, this would remove all problems with damage, but also with toughness. Because you could just take a boatload of defensive items (like taking Esoteric - Mutilation - Invigorating, all defensive passives, lots of points in Vit, etc) and still kill everything in a 150 rift more or less instantly.

Leapquake just needs more damage… and toughness is almost like a side effect of getting more damage.

okay well if you one shot everything you wouldnt need any offense items

MotE set needs Lut Socks bonus built in. Then give Lut Socks a DPS bonus to all earth damages - SS, EQ, Ava etc.

Problem solved.
