I AM a wizard expert, and you’re much spot on. Mammoth Hydra cannot be buffed. Ever. Unless there are sweeping changes made to individual hydras.
Even Cold Hydra is probably half of mammoth hydra, which is why there are frequent calls to up the Typhoon set bonus to 1750-2000%/hydra.
