The change in size of the stash and the shared stash is good for online D2 players. I only play off-line LAN and solo so those 2 new changes will break my external stash mod and likely break my access to runewords. Playing d2 online doesn’t excite me after a bad experience long ago. There is a good chance they will screw around with the off-line LAN feature as well making this whole thing more infuriating than anything.
Assuming that D2:R doesn’t screw up my off-line LAN, but breaks my 2 main off-line mods (external stash and runewords) I’m probably going to be stuck on 1.14d for a very long time.
Lastly, the price for D2:R should be dropped by $20 in my opinion. $40 for a facelift is expensive. I know there loads of D2 die hards that will pre-order. I’m going to let this loaf of bread cook to completion before deciding to buy.
I hope so and I have to hope the mod makers put in the time early on to update them. If they screw up off-line LAN I might be permanently entombed on 1.14d.
Since D2R is an entirely separate game these are non-issues. D2R is not replacing Diablo 2 - D2 will continue to exist as it is and won’t be going anywhere when D2R arrives.
I would not make your assumption. They are more likely to follow the War3:R example and force all future patches down the path of D2:R. They want D2:R on modern B-net servers. D2:R is very much slanted toward their online players. I don’t believe a word was mentioned about off-line solo and off-line LAN.
Except Blizzard has already gone on record stating that they will not be repeating the mistake of Warcraft 3 by replacing Diablo 2 with the remaster. Diablo 2 is sacred ground, a dedication Blizzard has proven in every presentation and interview regarding D2R.
As for whether or not D2 continues to get patches/updates… who knows. It’s a miracle that a 20 year-old game is still supported at all.
Stop assuming everyone who plays offline has hero editor installed. Also, stop thinking that cheating in a solo offline environment has anything to do with your online experience.
The biggest issues are:
ATMA/GoMule
rune word in offline
no Bonjour components (leave the old LAN feature intact)
Really so to polled at least 90% of the player community to back up your claim? You employ “us” and “we” but you don’t represent me. Stop trying to represent me, when you don’t understand my point of view. Offline solo and LAN have been apart of the original game. There is no point in screwing around with those features in an effort to try to make b-net game play more favorable.
I will most likely play solo offline too. So idk where you are coming saying it’s not important. it is important to me but just as @bossdogg , but I will want at least a plugy Mod with it (runewords/uber clone/ubers in offline).
I don’t think I will play if there is no ladder only runewords. Mainly because it will give me the incentive to farm it (and it takes super long to farm for endgame runewords when you are strictly SSF without trading/rushing etc.)
There is nothing esoteric about my position. My position does not hinder progress. The mods that were created after the releases is progress. What in the world are you smoking?
I want off-line solo and LAN play with the updated graphics. I will take a few QoL features added. I want external infinite stash mods (ATMA/GoMule) and runeword mod while others will want plugy. The larger stash size is most likely going to break those mods but the larger size is no substitute for ATMA/GoMule. Nobody wants to go back to managing 40 to 70 mules, full of gear. Breaking those mods is not going to motivate me to log into b-net.
If you have that much gear, that’s a you problem. I fell into that trap on Battle.net East/West where I had 48 characters on each realm with a total of twelve full accounts. While there were extreme players like us, we were in the tiny minority in that regard. If we get the equivalent in space to what Diablo 3 gives us, that should readily suffice for most players unless they’re hoarding every last set and runeword in existence.
Tias,
Come now. You know the mods only work off-line. I participate in multiple leagues over time and each have their own rule set. ATMA/GoMule allows me to keep each set of characters separate from each other as well as gear drops. It is very easy to fill up a D3 style stash very fast. Have you not heard of Single Player Untwinked Magic Find? It is very close to starting fresh in a new season in D3 with no gear, no gold, and no cube. The difference is all the stuff one picks up and sells is to generate gold for gambling at specific points. You are thinking like I’m going to be playing on b-net. You got that wrong. Off-line solo and LAN is where it is at. I don’t have a hoarding problem.
Just in case you haven’t heard of single player untwinked magic find, let me help you out: https://www.diabloii.net/forums/threads/guide-to-untwinked-single-pass-early-game-magic-finding.620901/
I know plenty about the nuances of D2. If modding is allowed, you may well still be able to have your offline infinite stash. In fact, if offline is allowed, then that would actually be something Blizzard/VV could bake in for the offline mode since the only limitations at that point are your RAM and storage space. But if they don’t do it themselves I’m sure someone else will in time.
