I'll Take Barby for 150, Please!

So, for the upcoming Season, I’m going to take a Whirlwind Barby, and I’ve the insane idea of trying to complete GR150 (perhaps, I’ve watched too many of Raxx’s videos!).

Firstly, what - exactly - is involved in this? Secondly, how much time will this take? To date, the best GR I’ve pulled is 104. As you might’ve guessed: I’m not the most committed player; that said, I’d like to try this.

Is this a realistic goal for not being a Youtube Celebrity?

Best.

It likely won’t be possible next season. This season it’s possible due to the season buff essentially killing everything for you (hence the zDPS Barb builds that did 150). But we need to see how overpowered or not the shadow clones are.

It’s not an unrealistic goal for a non-streamer, but it is an unrealistic goal for someone who is very casual about playing the game and has never done above 104. 104 is very easy for experienced players, it’s usually done the first day of the season start on every class.
You wanting to go straight to 150 is making a big step from “I don’t know much about game mechanics and builds” to “I know everything there is to know”. Unless you are prepared to spend hundreds of hours next season learning mechanics and griding paragon and gear, you should temper your expectations. Maybe 130 to 135 should be a first step next season, and then look into 150 solo (if the season theme or power creep allows it) the season after.

Either way, you should first try to go for 150 in a group. This is easy to do, and you’ll learn a lot.

I appreciate your answer. I’m not, exactly, unfamiliar with what you’ve said regarding game mechanics; it’s the grinding that…, well, grinds on me. That said, I’m committing to doing more with it, because I do enjoy the game, and would like to lean more about it. 130 sounds reasonable.

Thanks.

Hey, more power to ya! If going barb, just practice and master ancient spear/rage flip…this is your friend in higher GR’s.

Good to know. Thanks! But, as I’d understand it, isn’t the real trick augmenting your gear with the highest gems possible?

The real trick is to actually survive and play efficient in 130+

Augmented gear, decently balanced stats and quite good paragons are just the basic starting condition.

How? I never use it.

If you’re playing WW/Rend at high level then you need Ancient Spear / Rage Flip in order to group huge amounts of mobs into a pack - we’re talking multiple screens’ worth of mobs here, i.e. can easily be a couple of hundred. This is so that your manually cast Rends, which take advantage of your Area Damage, can be as effective as possible. Also, you want to drag multiple elite packs together so that when you get a Power or Conduit, you can get massive amounts of progress from them. There’s no skill in the game that’s more effective for gathering than Spear.

if you have not done higher than 104 your going to have to play many times harder this season than you have ever played before. good luck with your goal.

id like a cheese ball season where everybody can do 150 solo to varying degrees. i know i am in the minority but its one season allowing the people that barely play this game a season to be the greatest isnt that big of a deal. i think its mostly about the people at the top of this game with a good combination of friends that dont want to lose their advantage for even one season.

OP, not to discourage your enthusiasm, but I would set my goals a bit more modest. Say, 120 GR? If your highest GR is 104, I think 120 is very achievable for you and maybe one day shoot for the moon and do 150. In any case, good luck.

The big hurdles for damage output and skill are as follows.
GR 120+ will be where spear and a good understanding of what makes wwrend shine.
GR 130+ is where even elite level players begin to struggle and the fishing begins. In season 22 plan for 3k paragon in order for this do be done for most players. A lot depends on how powerful the shadows will be.
GR140+ If the clone gives scaling for 100% double damage plan for 4k+ paragon needed for this level.

I don’t think anyone will beat this seasons top clears unless something is broken again with the theme. Considering the world record rend clear for non season is 148 with 13k paragon I don’t think anyone will get close without lots of help. There is also a big concern for those that excel at rend myself included. The extra aggro and CC that will happen from the shadow will make pushing a pain in the butt. I already drop my follower in my 140 attempts for this very reason.

It’s probably unrealistic (and, as I’ve mentioned: I’ve watched too many 150 clears on Youtube); but I do want to get to some higher tiers.
