IK6/2 Horde Hybrid build feedback

Came up with this build on the fly but wanted feedback before trying it out this Season. Wanted to take advantage of Kanai’s Cube this season as well with the flexibility it provides. I’ll explain my choices below but first the build:

Skills:
LC: Hammer of the Ancients(Smash)
RC: Call of the Ancients(Together as One)
S1: Furious Charge(Cold Rush)
S2: Battle Rage(Bloodshed)
S3: War Cry(Veteran’s Warning)
S4: Wrath of the Berserker(Insanity)

Passives: Berserker Rage, Ruthless, Superstition and Animosity

Gear: 5-piece IK(6-piece achieved with RRoG. IK Belt is mandatory) and 2-piece Horde(Shoulder’s mandatory). Pick a slot for other Horde piece and IK fills the rest. Mortick’s Bracers, RRoG and BoM rings, FoT Amulet, Remorseless and Fjord Cutter for the Weapons.

Gear Attributes:
Helm: Str, CHC, HOTA, Socket(Diamond)
Shoulders: Str, Vit, AllRes, CDR
Gloves: Str, CHC, CHD, CDR
Chest: Str, Vit, %Life/Elite Dmg/ResAll, Sockets(3xDiamond)
Belt: Str. Vit, ResAll, %Life/LPFS. +Max Fury Secondary
Pants: Str, Vit, ResAll, Sockets(2xDiamond)
Boots: Str, Vit, ResAll, HOTA
Bracers: Str, Vit, CHC, %Fire
RRoG: Str, IAS, CHD, Socket(Bane of Stricken)
BoM: Str, CHC, CHD, Socket(Bane of Trapped)
FoT: CDR, CHC, CHD, %Fire, Socket(Bane of Powerful)
Remorseless: +Damage, Str, %Damage, IAS, Socket(Emerald) via Gift. +Max Fury Secondary
Fjord Cutter: +Damage, Str, %Damage, IAS, Socket(Emerald) via Gift
Add Secondary Resistance where you can spare it!

Kanai’s Cube: Gavel of Judgment, Bracers of First Man and Echoing Fury

Follower: Scoundrel

Paragon priority:

Core: Movespeed, Max Fury, rest Strength
Offense: CHC, CHD, IAS, Cooldown
Defense: AllRes, %Life, %Armor, Life Regen
Utility: Area Damage, LoH, Gold Find and Cost Reduction(if at all)

Build potentials based on above attributes(Paragon 800, Rank 50 Gems):
Strength: ~9900(ideally) but looking at roughly 9k+ with really good rolls
Vitality: ~4000(ideally) but looking at 3k to 4k depending on rolls
Life: +25-55%(depends on Life% rolls) yielding at most 627k life
Damage Reduction: 95%
Magic Damage Reduction: 20%
Elite Damage Reduction: 15%
CHC: 64%
CHD: 610%
%Fire: 40%
Damage against Elites: 15%
Damage against Rift Guardians: 25%
CDR: 38.6%

HOTA Damage and APS(with ideal rolls):
Trash damage: 936 Billion at 18 Frames(3.33 APS) for 3.1 Trillion DPS.
Activating Echoing Fury in cube can push it as high as 12 Frames(5 APS) or 4.68 Trillion DPS.
Against Elites: Over 1 Trillion raw damage for 5.38 Trillion DPS.
Against Rift Guardians: 1.3 Trillion raw damage for 6.73 Trillion DPS.
Ruthless: Spikes Trash damage to 1.3 Trillion, Elite Damage to 1.5 Trillion and RG Damage to 1.89 Trillion(multiply by 5 for DPS).

DPS can be enhanced with IAS buffs. 15% needed to hit 11 Frames, 40% to hit 10 Frames. Additionally Crusader can yield another 50% CHD so Damage can increase even further in the right group.

Reasoning behind build: Skills are relatively straightforward. Furious Charge into enemies to Freeze them while maintaining DR buff from BoM ring and then utilize Fjord Cutter to keep the Freeze going(if possible seeing as CC doesn’t last). I opted for Veteran’s Warning over Impunity since 60% Dodge is arguably the strongest buff in the game. In a party with a Monk, everyone hits 74% Dodge thanks to its Mantra of Salvation(Agility) while the Barbarian hits 79%(with WotB) or higher(with Gogok Gem). Monks meanwhile have a good chance at hitting and surpassing 90% Dodge thanks to the 60% Dodge buff granted from Horde Set. Dexterity class hitting 90% Dodge brings back D3 Vanilla memories.

As for Passive Skill choices, Animosity is probably the one to get the most scrutiny but I opted for it to hit 190 Fury(max is 194). 190 Fury adds 38% CHC to HOTA, which is just enough to hit 100% CHC. Scoundrel Follower with Anatomy skill can add another 1.8% CHC to buffer non-ideal rolls but the margin is rather slim. Yet in exchange for that is the sheer maximum CHD possible at 610%. Can hit 660% if you have a Blessed Shield Crusader with you.

As for gear, I think the most interesting part is having 2 Weapons in Kanai’s Cube since its a Season 20 perk that hopefully is made permanent. Therefore I wanted to take advantage of it by getting the IAS buff from Echoing Fury without having to worry about its Fear causing monsters to run away. I also opted for Cooldown Reduction in lieu of Area Damage or Vitality/%Life to keep BoM buff up as much as possible.

My question to all of you is whether the following is viable?

Good thought. I am conservative about using Fjord Cutter though. I would rather equip Echoing Fury, cube RoRG and use either CoE or Endless Walk set.

Max. 10% freeze chance of Fjord Cutter gives only 1.1x multiplier by utilising H90 2-piece bonus at best. If we add possible freeze chance on belt and cc immunity from cold rush and from fear (echoing fury), the effectiveness of the freeze chance of Fjord Cutter is even lower. CoE gives 1.5x multiplier on average and Endless Walk set gives 2x multiplier for most of the fighting time (need to give up FoT though). They seems better choice than using Fjord Cutter.

If I really want to go IKH90 HotA with freeze, I think 25% freeze chance from Azurewrath is better.

I give this post about 87 thumbs up! Well done for analysis… I’m saving this and giving it a roll next season (also read this more thoroughly)

Well done nonetheless

Just noticed that Justin makes a build in d3planner exactly the same as I propose. His post is here:

As the secondary equipped weapon is being used to freeze mobs to proc the two-piece armour bonus why have you chosen Fjord Cutter (10% chance to freeze) over Azurewrath (25% chance to freeze)?

Yes I agree with you. Azurewrath is better than Fjord Cutter, but still, it is worse than CoE + FoT or Endless Walk versions.

Sorry, you’ve lost me.
How does weapon selection affect your jewellery choices?

Original post suggests to equip Remorseless + Fjord Cutter and then cube Echoing Fury.

My suggestion is to get rid of Fjord Cutter (or your suggested Azurewrath) from the build. Equip Remorseless + Echoing fury. Then a cube slot is spared for cubing RoRG and then you may choose to equip CoE + FoT or Endless Walk set.

Just did 120 with EF + 4.1 Freeze on belt, and stun on gloves. Str 17000.

However, the ladder bugged, did not record my clear.

AOE is impressive.

How does it feel/perform vs H90?

H90 is definitely better. Peviously I did 6:28s GR120 with Azur + APD str 21000.

THREADS like this is what I love about the Barbarian community.

So creative and supportive.

But is better than vanilla IK? If it is, the hybrid will will always have the edge for HotA, even if they buff IK (unless they introduce a new item that only vanilla can use).

Poco, I’d be shocked if IK + H90 isn’t better than IK base. You’re essentially trading out CoE (+50% dmg) for doubled shouts, which significantly increases Bloodshed damage, significantly increases Falter damage, and if you can work in stun/freeze rolls on your gear, can also give you instances of double damage again. (I can see a setup using the HOTA:Thunderstrike rune being useful in speeds).

I’m gonna play this setup in season as “starter”, but with ww/rend. As soon as i get all Wastes pieces, iľl switch sets. Good luck with pushing and thumbs up for analysis. I still remember my good old 6IK HoTA days

I think this option makes the game more interesting. Base IK is easier to play, and easier to gear, but if you want to push it a little further you have to use the hybrid and master the CC effects. Ideally LoD HotA would be the strongest, since it’s exquisitely difficult to gear and requires razor thin margins for cooldown management.

Bottom line: three ways to play HotA is exciting :stuck_out_tongue:

Another problem is ( when you use ground stomp for stun) you need > 33% cdr.

LOL, don’t forget R6!

Ok, now I feel like coming back for IK6H90HotA

And that’s the problem with H90, no one want to play a squishier version of HOTA. Barb’s will play a less power HOTA with more DR than a more powerful H90 that feels squishy, “that is NOT the way”.
