I hope set items are redesigned in Diablo 4

Set items in Diablo 3 were not that interesting and locks you into a certain build because they give effects like: increase the power of this skill by 1000%.

That’s boring.

Now I have to use this skill because it’s power is now 1000% greater.

I am just making up numbers here but you get the point.

Maybe this time we can have things like this skill will now freeze wet areas causing enemies to slide around or get stuck in the ice.

What do you think?

I don’t really like how d3 sets are either. Once you have your build items every thing else becomes trash since you’re looking for upgrades of your build items. I hope d4 fixes that.

Isn’t this how most D3 sets are covering both damage and skill change?

  • Tal Rasha Set allows auto-meteor
  • Vyr Arcana Set unlocks all archon runes.
  • Jade Harvester Set made your defensive skill become a nuke button.
  • Firebird Set has auto-revive
  • Inarius Set made Bone Armor into Walking Tornado

Also, although we learn nothing about D4 set item at this moment, I have the feeling it will be something similar to Diablo Immortal’s set functionality.

Instead of focusing on buffing and changing specific skills, it will focus on general build gameplay.

For example, if you want to play DoT and channeling build in DI, you will use Grace of the Flagellant as that build focuses on continued damage.

If you want to play speed/mobility build in DI, you will use Isstar Imbued as you gain extra movement speed x damage every time you kill monsters.

and etc.

I like the way they did set pieces in D2. D4 should have more of that idea vs. D3.

I really hope the itemization is more along the lines of D2 than rather D3. D3 is too much of a stat stick thing.

I will be not popular, and i know they were not the best option for builds, but D2 sets were pretty flexible. And D:I sets are also flexible, but because it’s has a universal bonus and not tied to classes. D2 sets had affixes, that some times even wearing one item was highly beneficial. Then there were the partial set bonuses, when certain combination of pieces from a set were more usefull, than wearing the full set. And then sometimes the seperate set bonus, made you want to ware the full set, even if just as a budget option.

So i’d rather see some kind of combination of the D2 and D:I sets, rather than just one or the other copied one on one. And they could also sprinkle on them, the skill altering powers of D3 sets.

After quick check D2 sets look like stat sticks. Or did definition of stat stick change?

Also, only way to make those better is by memorizing all 3 trillion rune words.

Complexity isn’t always a good thing. Didn’t PoE already teach you that?

Every item in every item in every rpg are stat stics. I don’t know why people forget this.

What does RWs have to do with sets?

Complexity doesn’t equal complicated. PoE is a complicated pile of :poop:, not complex at all.

The simplest way to “fix” sets in D4: do not implement them.

Also I was under impression that D4 already has no sets at launch.

Sadly D4 won’t have sets at launch.

However, we may see them added down the line via season/updates. I simply hope that sets are generic rather than skill specific like a lot of D3 sets.

Whether you have set items or rune words you’re still accomplishing the same thing. I suppose the question should be, which do you prefer? In the end, you’re still locked in to a specific skill, whether with set items or with specific rune words.

Sets should be small, like 2-3 items in total. Such as Weapon + Shield. Two Rings and an amulet. Boots and Gloves.
The set bonus should be be about some gameplay theme, and work for all, or nearly all, classes. It sounds like D:I might actually manage that.

Agreed. That is the safest option. I dont trust Blizzard on delivering sets that wont harm the game.

It was confirmed that sets will be part of the D4 design, however, the devs stated that sets will act as more of a stepping stone on the way to BiS, rather than actually being the end game BiS for your build.

I am thinking more like Krelm’s, Blackthornes, Guardian… Items that you will be happy to get for their temporary power boost, but aren’t going to be used all the time.

Since they will be introduced at some later time, I imagine they are working on them as we type.

Be nice to mix sets as you level and at end game. I just hope D4 doesn’t have class sets like D3. D3 started with classless sets, should have stayed that way.

Yea like D2 never had class sets

I did, but not like D3. D3 could have been different than D2, if it just had classless sets. I just hope D4 doesn’t make the same mistake. Keep them classless. Then the supplemental (rare or better) gear will mean something, i.e. have class specific powers/abilities.

D3 fell on the on the other side of the horse, with sets and class specific items for shure. I actually like class sets items, but there should be far less than in D3.

The whole point of sets has always been to add set affixes as you collect more pieces. What those are doing should just be in line with the itemization of the game which obviously shouldn’t be anything like D3.

Sets can be good. I do like sets. I’ve especially like build changing affixes they’ve added to the seasonal gear/gems. And don’t make them too hard to obtain. I like how D3 you could obtain good gear and try out different builds without a ton of hours of time sink.

But it would sure be nice to have sets not be so limiting on weapon/skill choice.
