i already gave one to the altar of rites, now i found all the mats for the staff of herding again (i was just looking for visions lol)
how do i use this staff?
Go visit Old Tristram path to find a cow corpse by a chasm. Use web search. It is not complicated.

You do not have to equip the Staff to open the Portal. Just have it in inventory.
You may be disappointed. It is nowhere near as lucrative as the place opened by a Rainbow Goblin.
Some people still go there to find the Rainbow portrait frame.

No kidding, considering how seldom it pops. Granted, I did get 2 in 1 season once.
Just so you know, the staff of herding does not open a cow portal. It opens the crappy version of Whymsy.
If you do not have Bovine Bardiches, Temple of the Firstborn and Ruins of Corvus are 100x more efficient for Visions than the crappy version of Whymsy will be.
I start in the Fields of Misery, then I move to The Festering Woods, to The Royal Crypts, and then to The Halls of Agony 1-3. I usually get a half a dozen Vision Portals in that route and I don’t have to level Act 1. Sometimes I get a Rainbow Goblin in my hunt for the Vision Portals. Man that place is crazy with loot. Sometimes other goblins spawn the Cow Portal or The Goblin Vault.

Don’t leave out Temple of the Firstborn with the massive amount of critters that spawn out of nowhere (Ruins of Corvus has the same type but not so abundant).

Temple of the Firstborn is my go-to first, then Festering Woods, then Fields of Misery. Rinse, repeat.
