how do you level up a new character quickly
For the first character in a season for example, doing kill streaks, crafting XP gain boosting gear, etc. That’s the normal way if one doesn’t want to be powerleveled by level 70 player.
For additional characters the Gem of Ease typically is enough.
If you are just starting the season, do the challenge rift today to get some mats, get Kanai’s cube, then depending on what class you have, upgrade a lvl 70 weapon to legendary and hope the effect can be useful when you extract the power in the cube. Some classes are easier for this than others.
Maxroll.gg have some really good guides for leveling up all characters. If you want to play this current season, I would just ask someone to level you up. It will take less than a few minutes, and if he’s any sort of friend he can get you to paragon 400 or so with a few high Grifts.

Here.
I’d add a Hellfire Ring and a Hellfire Amulet, since you can equip those starting from lvl 1 (and the ring has guaranteed +45% exp gain).
You can also remove level requirement from gear with a level 25 gem of ease, my go to is a Leorics ring and crown for even more XP. Those 4 items + a weapon and a Legacy of Dreams and you will level very fast.

I’ve a Gem of Ease (lvl 130) too.
“Hidden” items are part of the Guardian’s Jeopardy set.
Cube:
- Armor: Leoric’s Crown
- Jewelry: RoRG
Obviously, a person power leveling you is going to be the fastest.
But as others have already stated, a Level 25 Gem of Ease along with a HF Ring & Amulet, along with a 2 handed Legendary weapon are good enough. Use any blood shards you have to gamble Level 16 gear with your new character.
Depending on how long you’ve played, you may or may not have other legendaries to cube/wear. A few seasons, I’ve gone 50+ upgrades without getting an item I’m after. For example, this season, I was Paragon 750+ before my first Cesar’s Momento dropped. But you can get around this by crafting Legendaries for your LoD, as 15 bounty caches guarantee all the recipes.
Diablo 3 - Solo Alt Leveling Monk in 11 minutes with minimal preparation - YouTube
400 paragon points used
Level 5 Legacy of Dreams
Level 25 Gem of Ease
HF Ring
HF Amulet
Cain’s Memory (Level 22 Helm with Guaranteed Socket for Flawless Royal Ruby)
Sunder (Craftable 2 Handed Mace)
Level 16 The Crudest Boots (easy to gamble)
Bovine Bardiche - Create a Level 1 Crusader, and gamble Pole Arms. They only have 3 different types, so this is fairly easy to get early on.
In the Cube:
Armor: Leoric’s Helm - You can guarantee this by killing the Skeleton King in Campaign Mode
Weapon: Mad Monarch’s Scepter -Fairly common drop from Act 1 caches, which you’ll probably have a lot of by the time you find a Royal Ring of Grandeur.
With the above, I can level up any class to 70 in under 15 minutes (assuming the proper Level 1 character blood shard gamble).
Level up to 35+ in Halls of Agony, then switch over to the Cow Level using the Bovine Bardiche. Finish up in Temple of the Firstborn. (At Level 60, craft some new legendaries from the blacksmith to give a much needed power boost).
Yes, you can go faster with better gear in the cube and leveling up the gems, but I’m looking at it as a function of how much time is required for preparation (gem leveling, running rifts for GR keys to level gems, etc.) and leveling combined, rather than just the 1-70 leveling.
I see that you don’t have any characters capable of leveling a Gem of Ease and likely nothing extracted to the Cube.
Your only option then is to ask for a Powerlevel, though I rarely recommend that for a Player just starting out. You end up with Levels but no gear and can’t fight your way out of a paper bag.
Monsters level with you from 1-70 and you end up trying to defeat level 70 monsters with sub-level 30 gear.
If the person doing the Powerlevel is nice, they can drop level 70 items for you to use when you get there, especially if they run the same Class as you.

I am willing to run with you and even do a Powerlevel if you wish.
I will send friend requests from both of my accounts, and we can see how it turns out.
At the beginning of the season, just join a group. It doesn’t matter if it is softcore or hardcore, level more than one character to 70 since you can do so fast in a group.
Then further characters, you can use the cube to make max level items into a level one item with a level 25 gem of ease.
Or just make the lowest legendary items you can from the blacksmith and set them aside. You will get to level 20s really fast with a level 25 gem of ease in your weapon. If you don’t have a set bonus, use the legacy of dreams gem. That will buff you up real fast.
Hellfire amulet and ring are nice too, especially since they are both usable at level one.
The cool thing with D3, there are many ways to get a level 70 really fast solo or in a group w/out asking for a powerlevel. Of course, having a friend or clanmate to play with is an added bonus. I powerlevel my friends and clanmates with no problem. I honestly need to be in the mood, basically really bored, to powerlevel a random player, especially since it’s too dang easy to do it solo.
At his stage, I agree. And I’d pretty much forget any guides, and just rift to 70. If you’re going solo, without access to the Challenge Rift to get a Challenge Cache, you’re looking at 6+ hours.
But the problem with the guides is they pretty much expect some level of competence. I’ve seen far too many people fail at attempting massacre bonuses to the point where it’s slower than just leveling via rifts, because they just don’t really understand what massacre bonuses are. It’s going to require some level of knowledge of the game that a new player just won’t have.
That said, without access to a Challenge Cache, he chose poorly in terms of his first class. If I had to rank classes from easiest to hardest for leveling solo without a Challenge Cache:
- Witch Doctor
- Necromancer
- Wizard
- Barbarian
- Crusader
- Monk
- Demon Hunter
And really, anything below a Necromancer, potentially a Wizard, is going to be extremely painful to level up with.
Also, BehindTimes, taking advantage of those massacre bonuses, might as well just do bounties and have some mats ready for you to use at level 70. That’s what I do, then cap off the leveling with rifts just to do something different. At 70 I get my cube.
For me, just because of my playstyle, my 1-7 is
Barbarian
Monk
Demon Hunter
Crusader
Wizard
Witch Doctor
Necromancer
That’s starting fresh. No gems. No legendaries. No paragons. I use only what I find as I level. Most often I get a Leoric’s Crown and I put the first ruby I find in it. If that doesn’t happen, then I usually get a legendary 2-handeded weapon. That there is the major reason why I choose Barb as my go to start character. Sometimes, I find a 1-hander followed by another 1-hander, still makes the Barb the go to start class for me.
For Leoric’s Crown you can do Campaign mode - it’s a guaranteed drop when you kill the Skeleton King. Just saying.
I have a complete lvl 1 of a GoD build. Got bored with the season lvl up a lot Gem of Ease. Plus this is now boring I got. I have 3 accounts I have them in all 3 accounts SC & HC. LOL. Since then I have done about 100 Gem of Ease.
Actually, it’s not, just a very high percent chance of dropping.
Also, the rumor that every end of act boss drops a legendary is false too.
Again, they have a very high percent chance of dropping one.
I have done story mode many times, just for fun and something different.
Actually, that would be fun. Level a bunch of goe’s to 25, make all 12 or 13 items level one. Make sure its fully ancient with augments. Then start at level one without any legendary gems and tear through T6 with… ease.
Patch 2.2.0 Now Live - Diablo III (blizzard.com)
- The Skeleton King
- Will now drop the improved version of Leoric’s Crown the first time he has been killed by a hero
It won’t drop in Adventure Mode, nor will it drop if you’re under Level 5, so if it doesn’t drop in Campaign Mode, I’d say that’s a bug.
(The same with Malthael and Diablo. If you don’t get a legendary from them the first campaign kill, I’d argue it’s a bug as well.)
