That would be terrible indeed. There kinda has to be something unique anywhere you look. One thing WoW originally excelled at, was making a world where you could look in any direction, and see something special. These days it is more normal. But the Ubisoft style open world games often continue to do it differently; look in any direction and you see copy pasta.
That is definitely the main reason they have mounts.
there needs to be some stability and connection to the real world.
i mean when you start taking these unneeded shortcuts and just call it magic, you cheapen the game and it’s like a gateway drug for other shortucts that cheapen the game until the game just sucks. Might as well teleport my dagger into Lilith’s womb (yes Imperius has been a bad angel again) and end the D4 campaign at that point.
I mean do Dev’s even make good games anymore or are we just adding square pegs into circles and forcing them to “work”?
Mounts are a bad idea, and maybe they can tell us why i’m wrong. Doubt it.
Mounts can be bad idea, because they might cheapen the world, and traversing it. Removing exploration, removing danger. D3 already shows that with its hyper mobility. WoW shows it with flying mounts. And countless other games too.
But whether mounts go poof when you dismount? Could not care less.
Honestly that’ll only be the case if the overworld itself is pointless and only serves as appetizers to the main course, which in this case would be dungeons. So if the overworld has no challenge, reward, and/or content that can equal to the endgame contents like nightmare dungeons, then it’ll be pointless regardless if we have mounts or not.
No from the looks of it and according to what they shown, if you’re hit with a strong enough attack while mounted, you’ll be dismounted and your mount will ride off screen before likely vanishing.
They’ve confirmed that there will be no jousting (mount combat). The only type of attack that you can use with the mounts is special dismount techniques where your character uses an attack while dismounting at the same time (for example a rogue will jump off and shoot a rain a arrows while the horse rides away). Beyond that, you won’t be fighting while still riding a mount.
There will definitely be mounts that players will be able to purchase with mtx, as well as mounts that players can earn with in-game rewards and/or achievements.
Personally I don’t see any harm in mounts atm. Assuming that mounts will be the fastest way of transportation (outside of waypoint, town portal, or teleporting to another party member), it’ll give every character (regardless of their builds) a reliable transportation.
Honestly, I don’t want to see mounts in D4. I know it will eventually go the route ala WoW. No Thanks. Now, if the ‘mounts’ were like the Crusader’s Steed spell, then I am all in.
This isn’t WoW. Keep WoW away from D4. Remember what happened in the beginning of D3 when you made it WoW-like? I know it’s not an AH, but it’s still a WoW aspect.
If I want to play WoW, I will. However, I stopped in 02/2018 and only played Classic for about three months. Diablo > WoW imho. I’ll keep coming back to Diablo, I won’t touch WoW ever again, not even if you paid me.
have you play Lost ark
Many of your questions are already answered, if you look at all the D4 videos…
but I help you,
Mount disappeared after dismount.
You cannot attack on mount
Mount works like every open world arpg.
PoE 2 is not a massive open world.
Maybe D4 not for you, You can enjoy instance to instance via portal in poE 2. Traveling/exploration is not a thing in PoE2.
I dont support pay2win garbage so no i never played that.
the mount travel looks so terrible and it looks like they added 13 ways to teleport instantly because of the terrible design. I really hope D4 reconsiders mounts or does it an entirely different way.
In PoE, WP & portals are not fast travel (outside of story areas), they are the ONLY means in & out. Most end game areas are isolated.
You never feel a sense of an actual continous fantasy world. The reason mount is needed is D4 is a continous fantasy world. Even dungeans are a location in overworld.
You can choose NOT to use mount.
I will aviod using mounts mostly in my first playthough to appreciate & take in the world
Where’s the doom and gloom of Diablo 1 when you just mount up on your horse as it neighs gleefully and you ride through a bunch of meaningless zombie mobs that harmlessly grunt as you plow through them on your way to the NEXT THEME PARK RIDE aka dungeon… repeat ad nauseam
If you don’t want to skip stuff… wait for it… don’t skip stuff! Don’t use the horse, or use it, but when ever you encounter enemies, jump in the fight!
i´m ok with borrowing elements from wow, like transmog(are we sure that wow started it though?).
just as long as the high fantasy cartoony visuals are kept out.
and i´m unsure how them “raids” work… is the world-bosses in d4 the same thing? cos groupplay-gated content is wrong.
instead they should continue with d3´s exp-penalty imo.
