Including the D4 dev team? Runs on modern systems now, thanks to the good people at GOG.
We should all take a moment and return to the source and see what remained behind. (The better part of our soul?)

Never played D1 or D2, i started at D3
I played it a little but I actually got into the original Warcraft more. I didn’t become a huge diablo fan until I got into D2. Then I spent a greater portion or 12 years playing it with just a few breaks later on from it.
gog. com/game/diablo
Enjoy
played it on a 486 66mhz, 4 mag ram with a 10 mag hard drive so yes played them all.
Played D1 since 2000.
I highly recommend for players who havent played it get it from GoG to compare its mechanics/combat system to D2 and D3.
Overall you will notice higher similarities to D2 than D3.
I’ve played every version of Diablo and every expansion from the very beginning. Diablo 2 LOD was still the best, but a little bit outdated now. Median XL Mod does a great job of putting new life into it though.
Played it first back in highschool on a 586 Cyrix pc. Came back to it occassionally until d2 arrived.
I’ve played D1 and D2 the most. Still do.
Too many cool mods and the game engines are awesome
Don’t forget the Voodoo card!
Too ancient for me to touch in 2019, but I had no problem first playing it in 1999.
Running laps around the gore room with the Butcher in hot pursuit, spamming Stone Curse scrolls and pecking away at him with my trusty Composite Bow of Accuracy, and my heart thudding like crazy for 30 minutes afterwards…
It was my first-ever PC video game. Late bloomer.
Oof. At least go do a walk-through of Diablo 2. Buy the game to support Blizzard, but there are private servers that are fun to play. Slash is resetting soon, look for the Reddit. I’ll be playing that instead of the new season in D3.
For the OP, I played some of D1 last year. I started with D2 like 15 years ago though. Played D2 on and off over those 15 years. It’s still one of the best ARPGs to me.
Played it. Enjoyed it.
Moved on.
Played the crap out of it on the PS1
Didn’t play it for long, but still got the cd.
my first pc is a trs-80 and console intellivision so i play a most everything
Started with D1 in late 90’s. Didn’t play it at launch; since I was mostly playing strategy games back then. Then moved to D2 when it released. D1 literally changed my “gaming habits”, taking me away from strategy games, and much more into various types of RPGs which holds true today.
D1 mostly excels at an amazing atmosphere, which is still there in the game today. Probably hard for new players to get into it, but people might as well give it a try.
D2 was the big one for me in terms of how much I played it though.
Still my favorite Diablo…
I am still playing a Diablo 1 Mod…Called The Hell 2.
Unmodded Diablo 1 is unplayable to me anymore. But this mod have things like stash etc that make it kinda modernized and playable.
The sounds in Diablo 1, (monsters pain sounds, die sounds etc)…the music…the tactical styled gaming… Diablo 1 is the best in these areas. The sounds, it’s the best :). Of course you need the mod…cause unmodded diablo 1 is unplayable long term, maybe one time walkthru is possible, but not long term.
Guess you’re talking about D1.
Never played it.
Don’t care about D1.
However, I played D2 classic/lod for most of a decade.
And I was one of those suffering ppl that Friday Server fail night D3 first went live.
It took close to 4 hours to get all four of us in game finally.
My soul has nothing do to with playing games.
It is very personal.
