How does attack speed effect spells?

Does it work like D2 Faster Cast Rate where the animation is played faster?

I imagine more speed = more spells = more power = more damage = (ahem) more mana spent…

It works like in d2, only here most spells have their table with different breakpoints. Go to www.maxroll.gg—>solo tier list–>WD Arachyr or Zunimassa and there are tables. It says clearly how many AS you need on items to attack xx times per second.
