How do you handle your follower?

Hi! Nowdays I’m pushing regulary in season and I have really annoying experience with my follower (actually I’m thinking about going without follower). A lot of time happens that my follower share the crowd because I can’t call him beside me. How do you guys solve this?

There are a lot of opinions on this with the most valid reasons being (apologies if I miss any uses and reasons to dismiss- others will likely add):

  1. When the follower has a ‘cannot die’ rune and both you and the follower have a unity ring, there is a 50% damage reduction.
  2. Equipping your Templar and and Enchantress with Eun-Jang-Do - This means with a rift guardian, once it gets below 20% health, your follower will freeze it, more than once if a 100+ rift. If you have a Templar and also have the Freeze of Deflection shield, the templat being moderately stupid, will charge the guardian and the shield will occasionally freeze it when he blocks.
  3. With squishy characters and a unity ring on each, the tempar can also be used as a shield to for you to attack the guardian with him in front.
  4. When doing set dungeons, followers are a hindrance, so you dismiss them.
  5. Followers are basically useful in solo play to enable you to follow and attack the elite or pack of your choice. I get that it would be useful to point them a certain way,. but they do serve several useful purposes.

Realistically you do not need one but they can be useful as I said.

EDIT: - If you have a Necro build the enchantress can use the 2-handed sultan sands thingee to proc Kryspins.
Look up i.e. Google some sites on this. Cheers

Silly goose, Barbarians are a follower!

But uhh, I don’t really think about them that much. Sometimes they get stuck and mess up mob spacing/positioning… but not much we can do imo. Gear them and ignore them is my motto. But I’m not a try hard. So maybe other people have a better strategy.

Honestly you can follow a guide on this but they mean very little. I run enchantress with a 50% nagelring and an 85% oculus with exp stats maxed as high as possible. After that I don’t worry about it.

Runaway from them a fair distance, is what i usually do … they then leash to you (regroup) a bout a screen away from where you were.
But yea like Chris said, i wouldn’t worry about them.
More often than not, i run without them…

Just to add to Bassdude’s post, for a follower a really good alternative to Eun-Jang-Do is Azurewrath, which can freeze mobs at any health percentage rather than just below 20%

However on the subject of followers splitting up packs of mobs, it actually becomes detrimental to mob grouping to have any form of CC on your followers, so if your build is very reliant on Area Damage (as most barb builds are tbh) then you shouldn’t use anything like Freeze of Deflection or Ess of Johan, because it makes grouping up the mobs a lot more difficult, as it slows them getting to you, or outright makes them immune to you pulling them along.

However for me, as a HC player, I find the followers utility too valuable, and the cc it provides to be a boon to my survival, it interrupts my grouping at times, but really I just try to stay ontop of my follower so that things come to both of us, it’s not optimal, but I prefer it to having no follower or just a DPS follower.

Personally I would like it if we could have a command to bring followers to us, or if they just shortened the leash on them.

Yey, the command would be very good to call them beside us. I suggested that in some general forums but sadly I don’t think the devs would ever make some kind of change like this…
Yeah what you mentined about CC slowing down the grouping that is true too. But gives some more damage as well because BotT is procced.

I’ve brought this up a number of times and, long story short, there’s nothing you can do. If your follower or your summons decide to make a stand while you’re trying to make a pull or kite an elite, well, tough luck.

I really wish there was a “to me” button that they would respond to, but we all know that’s not gonna happen.

At least if it’s the Ancients making a stand you can resummon to reposition them.

Interesting. Do the Lunatics make an actual impact?

We are barbarians…we only handle the Enchantress, as long as lavok isn’t looking. The others we just kinda ignore.

No they don’t. They are actually kinda of annoying. I only use it for the loot % roll.
