How do you guys deal with the no-existing defenses?

I do not mainly play with the Necro, but I love the classe, the concept of almost all builds.
This season, Ive decided to give It a try again, maybe force myselft to main It this time and push further than the last.
Im with the LoD Singularity Mages, today pushed a 100, in 8XX Paragon and no augs.
But Ive almost lost ALL my hair in that run, died so many times, I had to repair my gear 2 freaking times, just because a wind came too next of my toon.
My damage is decent, I can keep LoD up almost the entre run with the 10 Mages up, the Bone Armor and so. Ive tried to run with the defensive belt + curse, but It feels so useless that Ive dropped both for the Witch Belt + mobility.

Also a note. I took a look in the toughness of my 3 season toons. Barb, crappy gear almost 400M, WD crappier than the barb almost 400M and the necro, 54M, with all defs.

The problem is my toon or that s*** defense is a punch in the stomach we must take every Rift we wanna do?

Socket Rubies or Emeralds into your chest and pants. The extra armor for an INT class really help. Accepting the squish is just a part of Necro life unfortunately.

My necro has close to 200M toughness in game.

Are you using the mage’s build? With the Belt+Curse combo? Because I’ve tested it (without looking into the character sheet) and it didnt worked as well.
Besides that, is it seasonal? In wich paragon are you?
Those infos will help, just stating your toughness not.

I deal with dying constantly with a good old fashioned drinking problem.

Check my profile for the season, if you are talking about non seasonal, it could still apply, but the damage would be significantly less.

I’ll give a try in this build as soon Ive the items.
I was thinking, maybe part of the issue could be me, as a usual player of strenght classes, and if I want to play Necro I should start thinking in addaptiong my play to it.
Probably the mages build isnt for me.
