How can the DH perma run strafe with the GoD set and not run out of hatred?

I’m gonna be playing as DH this season and ultimately end up running the GoD set and am curious how I can continuously use strafe and not run out of Hatred, does the primary attacks that come out while strafing give you hatred as if you were to fire it manually? Or do you need a bunch of resource cost reduction stats?

Momentum last 4 seconds stacks 5 times, so all you have to do is shoot a few hungering arrows (primary as a example) to build to 20 then you can strafe. When momentum falls a couple just fire another hungering arrow every few seconds you can easily maintain strafing. Shooting the primary doesn’t have to hit anything to add more momentum, but if your skilled you will use it for damaging demons or elites.

Yea but what it is exactly that would make it so I don’t run out of hatred in like 5 seconds? The whirlrend barb has gear and skills that return fury on hit so what does the DH have in that regard?

Strafe wears down discipline, you would have preparation (focused mind) also. If discipline drops too low stop strafe briefly until its back while using primary skill.

Strafe shoots your generators, therefore, generates hatred while Strafing.

The catch is… there needs to be an enemy in range for this to happen. You still need to be careful when nothing is around to hit.

I highly recommend checking out Iria and DieOxide’s threads in the DH forums if you want to know how to play GoD.

Lots of misinformed advice given in this thread already.

The autofired generators from GoD 4-piece bonus generate plenty of hatred if they hit a valid target.

Here’s the thing about the GoD set: it’s not a spin-to-win set! It’s a primary skill set. The majority of your DPS comes from (or at least is meant to come from) your manually fired primaries, not autofired primaries. Strafe is your vehicle positioning yourself and maintaining the damage mitigation.

If you have on Wraps of Clarity (which you should) you’re going to want to fire your generator every 5 seconds to get your damage reduction buff up and also to refresh momentum, so running out of Hatred shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Dude, what? Please don’t type stuff if you don’t know what you’re talking about. It only creates lots of misinformation people have to dig through to get to what is actually true. You only manually fire your primary to keep the stacks of momentum up. All your damage comes from strafing (which due to the 4-set bonus fires your primary automatically).

Skillful targeting of your manually fired primaries can add to your damage, that’s all.

To answer the OP though, I switched to a Yang’s to solve the Hatred issue, and never looked back. Highly recommend it (unless you’re pushing the leaderboard hard).

The autofired primaries don’t proc AD as far as I know and that is a huge source of damage for GoD.

Procs don’t proc procs.

I am pretty sure that autocast primaries actually do proc AD with GoD. However, casting primaries manually keeps momentum at max and can squeeze another one or two primaries in total out if the build, thus increasing the damage a little bit more.

@topic: During fight, autocast primaries should generate more than enough hatred to keep strafing. But keeping momentum at maximum by casting HA manually every 1-2 seconds is highly recommended.
When out of fight, or on speedruns with a lot of “empty areas” as everything dies instantly, I use Blood Vengeance as passive, and a different weapon setup. Most use Yangs for high RCR, I use a well rolled ancient Buriza, which reduces strafing costs enough, so that I don’t get out of hatred taht often.

Relying on autofired primaries has another downside, you can’t aim them. They fire at random targets. Manually fired primaries hit where you want them to hit.

Dude you seriously need to actually play the build.

Not entirely true, as HA automatically seeks a target out.

Only exception would be bolas or grenades, but they would also target the closest mob to where your character is while strafing with GoD.

For farming / speed grifts etc. Use a yangs recurve bow. It reduces the cost and you can speedrun anything without running out of hatred.
If there are no enemies to his, you will run out of hatred, since strafe is a hatred spender. The primaries shooting from strafe need to hit something to generate hatred.

If you’re looking for ‘mana steal’ you won’t find it. You have several other options though.

Resource Cost Reduction - This is an affix you can get on several pieces of gear. Yang’s Recurve (a legendary bow) has a massive amount of it, which is why everyone is suggesting you use it. RCR can also be a gear affix on things like shoulders, gloves, weapons, off-hands, rings, and amulets. You can also socket a topaz into your helm.

Skills - Several demon hunter skills deal with hatred management. Check the passive section, but you can also use the bat for a companion which will passively generate additional hatred for you and has an active ability to restore a large chunk of it on cooldown.

Hatred Regeneration - Chest armor, weapons, and off-hand quivers can all roll with the Hatred Regeneration affix, which passively increases how much hatred you regenerate every second.

Keep in mind, almost all of these options are going to take something else away from your build (damage, defense, cooldown reduction) that you probably need more for high GR pushing, but for speed and farming purposes there’s often room for these temporary sacrifices in order to improve your quality of life while grinding.
