HOT TAKE: Diablo Immortal isn't even pay 2 win

Hear me out. What are you paying to win at? I legitimately don’t understand.

I totally get it when there is rated PvP involved in a real game. Like in LoL where you can buy runes or w/e to power up your character or if you buy gear in WoW to prep for arena or w/e or in PoE how you have to spend money on the stash tabs to realistically be able to do anything with your items but… this is a phone game?

Story: Trash
Art style: Somewhat Trash
In-game Store: absolute trash
Gameplay: 10/10 fun on my phone when im waiting for the queue to pop in wow?

I don’t really care if someone has a million 5star gems because it literally has nothing to do with my experience and i dont feel like i need max 5 star gems right now, ive only been playing for a week and what would that even do for me anyway? make it so i kill monsters faster? be able to compete on a leaderboard in a genre where skill has NEVER mattered?

im having a ton of fun with the game and if it was anything other than a phone game it would be one of the worst games of all time. don’t get me wrong, im probably not even going to play diablo 4 with the way this company is going (why would I when lost ark is sick af?) but im having fun with this one surprisingly

does anyone else actually enjoy the game or are we all supposed to just be upset our whole lives?

prove me wrong in a court of law or don’t even respond

Thanks but no thanks, i will not be playing D;I with it’s immoral ways.

Your point? Phone games by definition need to be P2W?

Yes, the old “I’m gonna ignore any point that doesn’t agree with me” defense.

It’s a mobile game.

People are also upset with D:I because they can’t put in a 8+ hour binge session without dropping a few $100. They’re also expecting to be able to clear all content in 3 days (like a D3 Season)

30 days of content in a mobile game should take you … 30 days. There’s usually new content next month to keep you coming back and wanting that new $15 XYZ bundle (800% value!).

Wait until next month when the new season, battle pass. and new 30 days of content drops.

(If the new content isn’t dropped, D:I is Dead:In-the-water.)

Hot take?! More like… Ah nevermind.

Make it so, the half of the game ain’t locked to you. Make it so, the combat pace would pick up pace and it wouldn’t bore you. If only the shop doesn’t feel like it tries to lure you apart from your money by using fear of missing out.

It is. It’s also on PC, what a shenanigan.

I am a $5 battle pass player and I have played this game for quite some time now(Paragon 23).

If you don’t care about being the top of PvP or leaderboard, this game is very playable for free, period.

You can enjoy most content except Rite of Exile(only top 8 PvP players in 10 clans can participate) for free.

It directly affects your experience if you ever do any kind of multiplayer content because you will be playing with these people. It doesn’t matter if you intend to compete with them or not or if you’re trying to be at the top of a leaderboard.

Casual PvP with no intent at being the best = still facerolled by P2W players

Casual dungeon/PvE content = you’re still going to end up in groups with people that decimate your performance. You’ll feel like you’re just along for the ride.

Trading = they have more trade slots, currency and items of value than you ever will

If you were playing solo most of the time I guess you can just live in a bubble and ignore it, but D:I is the most multi-player focused Diablo game in the entire series. It wants you to group with people. It tries to make you group with people a lot. That means you are inevitably impacted by P2W players.

That fear probably comes from you and your habit of clearing a D3 Season in 3days.

It’s a mobile game that just so happens to have a PC client.

Try slowing down; let this month’s 30d content last 30d; train for next month’s; and above all. HAVE FUN!!

At that speed the “horrible mtx” doesn’t exist.

They bound to bring that system down. They did the same in Diablo 3 classic with very complex systems that no one figured by themselves. By the time of D3 RoS release all content became achievable. Even if they wanted to make skill of players really matter in PvP, it won’t be profitable as they won’t catch attention of whales. Also that’s a hard process as they need statistics to determine what’s skill and what’s not.

I expect by a year span, the game will change and rather get closer to Diablo 3 or Diablo 2 more. Sadly, by doing that it loses the opportunity of becoming a unique experience as they will keep all the good stuff for Diablo 4.

D:I emphasizes on multiplayer yet it divides the community apart even harder than Diablo 3. Because it’s not only about a power gap betwen dedicated and casual player, it’s about paying the shop and not paying. Much more complicated.
People think Diablo 2 is bad because you can freely trade, which it is; but at least Diablo 2 doesn’t gate anything behind a pay wall. You always have a nice chance to find top grade equipment as game system allow you to hunt specific items; in Diablo: Immortal you can hardly imagine it.

By math you’ll have decades ahead of you to reach one 5-star gem as a free-to-play player, you have no other choice. This is what we get as we wait for Diablo 4; we have no other choice but accept it because we wish what’s at the horizon to be good enough to worth it.

I don’t play D:I and I don’t plan to, but I believe it rather comes from shop advertising itself to you every half hour. There are people with compulsive behaviour and that’s worse than fear of missing out.

Comparing to other mobile games, that’s quite benign. I’d actually argue that that rate might be on the high side.

I played maybe 1.5h today; I’ve seen only 1 ad pop up when I first logged in for today. I expect to see one when I hit 60 and another one when I complete the campaign.

A “horrible advertising campaign” would be one that pops up an ad after completing every bounty (star wars uprising).

Why do you compare Diablo with other games which copied Diablo at the first place? Diablo supposed to make things better, not copy the copycats.

Konosuba is definitely NOT like Diablo.

There are many mobile games in different genres that have horrible ad practices.

There are many that don’t (eg Eggs Inc.)

Don’t you think that’s “whataboutism” and not exactly the approach people are looking for to alleviate any bad situation? Why do you compare things with the worst version? It’s just a video game, it ain’t supposed to be complex as real world problems.
When you recall that the world we live in has hunger, equal pay, environmental disasters or political problems, that view of yours could be favored, but please realize we’re talking about a video game where developers have full control. People simply want things to get better and there are choices for that.

The game?

Yes, that is what makes it pay to win. Killing a monster is a win. it wont win you the entire war, but it is one battle won at least.

P2W is not dependent on whether someone care. In general, most words and definitions are not dependent on how much we care.
The Earth does not get any flatter by not caring that it is a sphere. A horse does not become a dog just because we dont care about how much of a horse it is.

Not sure why the platform a game is on matters for whether the game is good or not.

Indeed. Calling it a mobile game is literal fake news :grimacing:

No, the problem isn’t that the game is slow or grindy. Heck, the game doesnt seem slow or grindy at all. Lvling was super fast.
The problem is that you can skip the gameplay by paying.

Well, the other problem is that the gameplay is terrible, but tbh, I dont have a problem with terrible games. I just have a problem with P2W design.

You (as a PC gamer, not you personally) are not the target audience. Let’s get that straighten out first.

Then why they took their sweet time to make it work on PC? They had all the opportunity to release this early when Netease said they’re done and plug their ears if anyone talked down to it. If being a mobile gamer means you have to pay to play games on a tiny screen, then so be it. If there are some secret taste to that I’ll never get that as a person. PC players wanted to try it too naturally and it turned out it wasn’t their taste.

As I said, this is supposed to what we get as we wait for Diablo 4 and it failed to bring community together. Blizzard developers first have to face with that. I bet it was huge success at China and east asia countries but apparently it doesn’t even worth the effort when you look at the numbers at west.
They had no other choice but invest at China after wild success of D3 MTX shop but they also have to embrace that not a single product can bring cultures together as they hoped.

THAT I can agree with.

I believe most of the Asian market doesn’t open up until 22 June.

Oh right, then we are the testbed for 9 more days. Until then the review bombing won’t change.

27 more days.

That’s when I expect the new season with new content to drop. I also expect to see the flame posts increase because PC gamers can’t clear the content in 3 days for free.

Why did you post here instead of serving the entire community papers?

Go read some more and watch some educational videos if you don’t know what is really going on instead of:

Don't respond until I see papers in my mail box.

Sheesh such :poop: post.
