I am noticing in the 130s that rifts are not giving pylons at all. I have tried running through the maps, killing trash, killing elites, and yet no pylons. Now sure why this is but after 8 Grifts in a row you gotta wonder, why keep going…
just did about 8 135s and all had pylons
If you are not killing the mobs fast enough, the spawn rate will be quite abysmal. They can also “move” around a little so expecting them one place may mean they were somewhere else in the map.
Pylons only spawn at many different predetermined spots at the unrevealed points of the map, waiting to be found. They won’t spawn at revealed spots and plain sight, also their spawn is dynamic and depends on thresholds per 25% of progress. If you anticipate a Pylon spawn ahead but don’t have enough progress, just stop going forward and stand at a crosspath to kill masses of monsters before moving out.
You have to know the map layout very well to expect a Pylon spawn somewhere. If you are not sure, memorize the mass aggro pulls you did on your last run and next time try to do them at another spot you found to be convenient or try to drag them outta that position.
Regarding all of that, in case you don’t see any Pylons in high Greater Rifts there are three possible mistakes you could have done. Either, your build is ineffective to kill or burst down anything in a fast manner, don’t topple enough aggression from monster crowds or lastly, you move past many monsters without killing resulting lower than expected progress thresholds when you reveal potential Pylon spots.
Sometimes you have done all three mistakes but if you don’t see anything then it’s at least two. In short, you could be lacking in survival and get interrupted to get flushed out which might cause all of that. Replace a skill with a defensive option to give it a try again, optimize your equipment and grind more main stats from paragons by hitting lower GR tiers. If those didn’t help then perhaps your target priority is way off in combat.
Memorize maps and be sure you have enough cast range or mobility to pull mass monster aggression to burst them down. Also be mindful of your Follower’s position, when Follower loses your sightline, you will be at disadvantage and might get overwhelmed regardless of your stance. Recognize your character’s weaknesses and know that system tend to reward you only when you do better.
It feels to me like it happens on a dynamic basis. If you are avoiding all content just running through to look for shrines, I have seen 0 appear for 6 levels until the end pylon appears. This is when my dps won’t kill things, because I am at my bottleneck Grift. Then if I start bashing away and kill stuff on my own, low and behold I don’t run down 6 levels to the end seeing zero pylons.
It just feels intentional like the matchmakers.
Its all random trash, like going 10 screens without any mobs.
either not killing enough to spawn them or you are missing them when they do spawn
You have to kill mobs and not expose pylon locations before reaching a certain progression point.
Yes it is entirely intentional. They only give you a pylon when you kill enemies. Well you get the odd rift where a pylon spawns right at the entrance but a pylon has a certain chance to spawn at a location and that chance increases as you progress through the rift so that is why you don’t see any if you just run through looking for them.
This is exactly how the game is designed. Pylons appear after a certain amount of rift progression as explained by several posters already.
I can’t even play High Rifts because GR110+ takes already too long.
This is the way.
If you reveal the majority of the map before you kill enough mobs, you won’t get the pylons to spawn. I learned that the hard way, when I was trying to fish for pylons, before I knew they they actually had to spawn, and were not already there when the GR starts.
Thanks for this and also to the OP. Not used to running a fast character. I was thinking “how can I make any progress if no pylons spawn?”. GR after GR, sitting at 98.
yeah I learned this lesson this season. Since I wanted to push as high as I could go +1, I cleared a gr110 (many pylons galore) in about 3 minutes, so I figured if I can clear a 110 in 3 minutes, i should be able to handle a 120… I started the 120 and WOW its the same map tile as the 110 i did, i know where they 9 pylons are already!! I rush to the pylon spots to find nothing there and meanwhile my completion bar is now in the negative since Im tryin to rush pylons and turns out zero pylons spawned… I ended up just quitting out. I set it to 115 and WOW… same tile set yet again, seems like this is happening more often but thats okay.
I assume no pylons will be there and at only 115, I am able to battle down the mobs and low and behold, the pylons were there! so I breeze thru the 115 in about 5 minutes, continuing to run 110-115s to stack up paragons and now im around 1100ish so I try the 120 and its doable with a few pylons.
