Hi everyone, Small question: i really hate the COE ring with a passion, what other damage rings i have as a option for my ww/rend build?
I was thinking about finding a good phys% damage SOJ ring, that together with the 20+ % damage to elites should be a nice damage buff to.
Anyone else have any other idea’s?
What you’ve mentioned is often used for speed running, so should be viable although obviously giving up the damage potential of CoE.
I’m currently running the rend WW build with captains crimson, so using RRoG instead of CoE, since I still need BoM to survive. So that’s an option for you that doesn’t use CoE as well.
Thanks for your reply, so SOJ is not such a strange idea. Thinking of running the crimson route later in de season when i found all the pieces ancient and with the best rolls i can find
Try skull grasp. I know people don’t use it, but if you hate CoE that much…
It’s my impression that CoE in the WW/Rend is more or less equip and forget (unless you use Falter and wanna maximize damage) whereas in other builds timing the cycles is crucial.
Skullgrasp does nothing damage wise if i’m correct. But someone else knows this better then me i think.
Mostly what I feel too, except those time you need to spin away to dodge heavy hits unless it’s the right element cycle, than you take one hoping not to die.
Why do you hate CoE? Lol
Because i always have the feeling i have to look at the rotations
Man, when I’m about to enter the right CoE cycle and ground stomp inside that yellow circle of death and do that burst damage is literally the best moments in this game
COE for a barb is average +50% additional DPS.
Plus 3 Attributes to choose (CHC, CHD, CDR, RCR or AD)
= (elemental)140% x (COE)150% = 210% DPS Boost average
SOJ can give you:
+20% Elemental Bonus
+30% Damage to Elite Bonus
Plus only 1 Attribute to choose (CHC, CHD, AD, RCR)
= (elite)130% x (elemental)160% = 208% DPS boost
Clearly COE comes out on top…
Uhm neither CoE or Soj?
It’s called F&R…
Either use: Reaver equipped, Ambos Cubed F&R or
Reaver cubbed, Ambos equipped (something else equipped SK, EF, Pig) and F&R
It’s way more damage than CoE + Obsidian. For speed there’s no reason for Obsidian at all, loss of damage, so is CoE. For solo this will probably be too squishy and you’d need to go back to Obsidian and Istavan’s.
2H Reaver is what you wanna goal for speed though, it’s a 36.5% damage increase (yes, I’ve included mid range augmenting loss 2H + 130% CHD loss for 2H in that equation).
So even with Istavan’s 30% damage loss it’s still an increase, then F&R 2.25x over CoE’s 1.667x. Let’s not even talk about how much better it is over Bul Kathos or what I like to call the T16 blades lol.
Sure, that works are lower GRs.
But the biggest reason CoE is MANDATORY at higher GR lvls is because you spend 12 seconds gathering your density, and then 4 seconds killing everything during your CoE window.
At high GR, CoE is NOT a “+50% average damage boost”, its an ACTUAL +200% damage boost due to how you have to play at high GRs.
I agree with your accurate analysis of the battle plan:
“12 seconds to gather, 4 seconds to do damage/kill; rinse repeat.”
best way to clear high GR.
Sure, that is how it works with highest GR solo and maybe some highest group push comps, agreed. But that’s not where we spend most of our time and for literally everything else especially group speeds F&R with 2H is the better option with more damage. Especially this season where your CoE damage cycle is cute compared to any pandemonium KS effect.
I’m not disagreeing with OP either, I hate CoE too. I’m just saying there are better options for speeds.
you can run captains and have higher damage output. coe is situational. meaning you have to have everything going on when the cycle lands or else its pretty meaningless. example, if you aren’t hitting what you want to be hitting when physical cycles up, you basically get no bonus. captains, on the other hand, the damage bonus is always on.
You use coe correctly if you horde mobs. If you don’t then most of the time you won’t make the most of the ring. Generally for speed runs it’s bad for that exact reason. While soj can have 20 physical and 30 elite which will help you a lot. Especially when speed farming and killing elites fast is your only concern. If the rift has bad density soj is pretty good.
I dont like coe builds but as said before its good on ww as you just ignore it really. Once youve stacked some stricken on rg and ruthless passive kicks in ive seen it wipe out the last third of health on rg in one cycle. I never look at its cycle and have done gr 118 with only 5 ancients and 2 augments. Its very good on ww. I will have to look at cycles as i get higher but no ther ring can conpare to it. I think it always rolls with a aicket too
With WW on a good map it’s - 12 seconds gathering your density, then 4 minutes killing everything. Because you move through the whole rift in the middle of a large group of monsters. So CoE gives you 50%, may be slightly more.
On fasts CoE gives you about 25%. SoJ gives you 30% vs elites (counting that 20% to phys is about the same as 6 CHC + 210 DMG).
I’ve always hated CoE. It just feels mandatory for a lot of builds on a lot of characters. It pins you into a specific play-style that’s entirely based on element rotation. I just don’t find it interesting or enjoyable to play that way.
I’ve had Skullgrasp in that slot forever but obviously I need to swap that out… but I hate CoE so much that I’m avoiding it. Blech.
