There were seasons when necros were the undisputed best class even for solo. Like the seasons with cube changes (4th cube slot, and 3 weapons in the cube) because they had so many multipliers that could fit in. I am not factoring in the Necro thorns build which was top at some point because it was so inaccessible for the average player.
The thing that sucked most for necromancers is that the devs took way too much time and too many seasons to address the class’s issues, like the very low toughness or the “every build is a cooldown land of the dead build”. Even the cheat death passive was working against you before they changed it (around S21 if I remember correctly).
Yeah, that was the season Bonespear was so good and the previous time I played necro. But sure, they were/are really good in some seasons but was it enough of them to justify people acting like they are always the best (Or near enough to always to be called more powerful than other classes)?
Yup we don’t disagree. I’d say that they are in a very good spot for a good 10 seasons, at least. But as you said, and I agree, what is OP changes constantly each season with new reworks.

It was actually pretty weak on PTR.
Then they went and added Mempo of Twilight after PTR ended, Mempo never got any PTR testing. It just went straight to live with the patch.
I think most of us that had tested the Tal’s rework on PTR read the Mempo affix in the updated patch notes and immediately thought “if the mechanics of the Meteor Shower effect work like they seem (spoiler: they did), that’s a bit much”.
Mempo needs to compete with reverse Archon variants (prior to Mempo, reverse Archon variants were possible via wearing Tal’s amulet and one of Swami/Fazula and cubing the other, Mempo takes the cube slot and kills the reverse Archon variants), so adding Mempo to block reverse Archon builds was a good thing IMO. I actually suggested something similar in my PTR feedback (not Mempo specifically, but some additional item power in a slot that would block reverse Archon variants): PTR Set Tracker - #8 by TinneOnnMuin-1187
They just overtuned it.
It could easily have been 100-150% or 150-200% instead of 300-400% and Tal’s would still be quite strong.
