I’ve just attempted around 40 GR’s today solo searching for a PB (over 300 attempts the last few days) and the maps are just awful.
Spider caverns… walk for 15 seconds, find a small pack with one elite, then another long walk, some mobs at the end. Totally useless map.
Sewers, good luck grouping anything together there.
Corvus, doors doors doors and doors, oh and some blockades as well if you are lucky.
Caves, a nightmare, nothing will follow you through a cave
Keep Depths, just a different version of Corvus
Cathedral maps, stairs, stairs, corridors
Pandemonium, stairs, walkways, walkways, walkways, 1 or 2 areas maybe
Failmarch, yeah, it’s been named that for a reason
Whatever that map is that goes in 2 or 3 directions and is ALL stairs and only has one giant area at the end where if you are lucky you get some decent progress
Any more I’ve missed feel free to add on to here.
Biggest issue I have with most of these maps is the density!
You can take the bad with the good, but there is sooo much bad and only a minuscule amount of good.
Anyway, that’s my whining over and done with, carry on
Yup…sounds like what you have to go through to push higher in GR’s…
My last “eh, I’ll try to go one higher” attempt with my wizard, I spawned the RG and a good pylon with it thus successfully completing 124. So thanks to “failmarch”, I finished on time…or should I say luck…
There’s always been the grind on finding the perfect GR to push. If they were all the good maps with density, it would multiply the the 140-150 gr clears as it wouldn’t take 1000 keys to find it with good mob types and pylons.
Can get frustrating yes…but I’m glad they are not all “good” maps. Also why I don’t push much at all as I don’t fish…I casually open GR’s and work with what I have and if I fail I fail, make a new game and go back to loot hunting for a while
Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they all need to be good.
But when you are literally only pursuing 1 out of about 20 or 30 attempts purely based on the map you get, gets you down a bit.
That is why I don’t fish any more. I pushed thornzy really hard a couple years back and after a while is just not fun anymore. I took a long break after that and now I just set goals like I’m gonna hit 22k main stat on my toon or whatever. Its made it more fun for me to set my own obtainable goals and not focus on the completely stupid amount of rng that I can not control called fishing.
It can indeed, unless your one of those people who live for ranking high although I bet somewhere…there has been a monitor smashed from frustration of pushing.
Try just looking for the “better” loot and here and there open a GR that’s your next highest and see what luck you have. This is what I do and oddly enough, I have had more success than if I went on a rampage of fishing.
It’s like when I used to bowl. I found out if I got mad because I had an off day…I played horrible the rest of the time versus when I just relaxed and said “eh, o well…”
I do the same. Once I get to the point where some slight fishing becomes necessary I still play bad ones, sometimes not horrible ones though. Sure you fail more of them but I still enjoy going on when it is a “might make it” since I also enjoy that.
But then again when you have done the “fishing necessary” levels enough and already explored the technique required and experienced the way it is and know good mob types very well etc etc I can see how it gets less rewarding.
Oh fishing…one of my least favorite aspects of this game. That, and farming ubers for Hellfire mats where I actually fell asleep doing.
It’s just one of those necessary evils I thought I needed to do to reach certain goals I have set for myself, but my goodness it can be quite disheartening when the chances of getting a decent map with decent mobs with the right shrines in the right spots AND the right RG are so minuscule, so I do sympathize.
I’m just glad I’m done with that. I’m running low level Grs not to rank up gems, not for paragon but for loot, just that, loot…and much to my surprise, I’m having a great time doing it. I thought it would be boring and I would go back to lfg for Grs but it has been over 2 months now and I don’t miss it. I hope this continues
And the sad thing is the caverns used to be the best zone in the game until some Blizzo-douche committee destroyed that zone entirely for reasons we are yet to learn, comprehend or approve.
Could be your 10 best clears instead of a choice? Although I am not sure how they would average out between different levels. As in you cleared 5 149’s and 5 150’s.
With everything said and done, what is the ultimate goal of D3?
Is it not getting the best gear to go as high as you can?
Is it not getting as many paragons to go as high as you can?
It’s not see how many bounties you can do in a season. Or collect as many mats as you can in a season. Or get 1000 rift keys.
So ultimately it’s pushing your limit! Solo, 2 play, 3 or 4, that’s the endgame for D3
Everything you do, rifts, bounties, empowering, gem ups, everything is in order to make your characters push their limits.
It’s not to go, well I’m happy now running 120’s now until the next season comes along.
I’m one well timed Conduit or a great season proc away from being rank 7 or 8 so I am still pushing, but it’s damn frustrating.
However I see no joy in using a Zbarb to solo clear a 150, even though I could
I just could not go there hahahaha
Oddly enough, this is the exact place I find myself in the game. Although I’m only running G100, I see myself doing this GR level way past next season, maybe scooch it a little higher as I go along until D4 comes out. I mix it up by doing other things (bounties, ubers, etc…) just so I won’t get bored.
I was lucky enough to accomplish some of the things you mentioned - I’m really proud of my current speed monk build
I still have odd things I want to do: get Wirt’s Original Leg, craft a primal or ancient HF amulet with specific Passives and there are still 7 items my monk can wear that I still don’t have a Primal version of, so I’m working on those.
For some of us this is exactly what it is. I have no issues with running 4-6 minute 120 grifts for the rest of the season as long as I enjoy it. For me end game is not pushing as high as I can go by any means necessary, it is to simply have fun. If fishing is what makes the game enjoyable for you then tear it up but don’t assume everyone else feels the same way.
That would only encourage fishing. Just keep doing Grifts until you have found 10 great ones.
By avering your actual runs, you cant really fish much. You can of course try to get 10 lucky GRifts, but that would first require a lot of luck, and second, you would risk your current leaderboard spot whenever you did so, by getting worse GRifts than you already had in your average (since each new run would replace your previous oldest run in the 10 run average).
I guess if you had cleared five 149s and five 150s none of them would count . 10 runs on the same GRift lvl. That would be the easiest implementation at least.
This would average things out and cut down on fishing a lot, but fishing and luck will still play a heavy hand. I have had stretches here and there where I get battlefields and festering several times over 10 runs then not see them for another 100 runs.
This best solution would be to have a GR balancing patch, say after this big class balance patch, if they get it right. There is no reason that big sewer map that takes forever to run though should have 4 elites and 30% progress, when a tight festering map has 10 elites and 75% progress. This is the reason that fishing is so prevalent and won’t be curtailed until this disparity is addressed.
Sure, you can do some better balancing of density, but the differences will likely still be immense. And should be immense, since otherwise it would indicate that the variety in GRifts are too low (layouts, enemy types etc.).
Even with better density balancing, fishing would still be required and worth it for leaderboard players.
Yep Agreed! Theres only a few good maps and all i get is the worse ones. Either get rid of the good maps or make them equal. That will get rid of fishing.
