GR completion time + next difficulty

I read the thread at

Completion Time Time Remaining Grants access to
Up to 5 minutes Over 10 minutes 3 additional GR levels
5 to 10 minutes 5 to 10 minutes 2 additional GR levels
Over 10 minutes Under 5 minutes 1 additional GR level

Thank you. I have a slightly different question. This needs some advance experience input.

Is there a rule of thumb to use determining how difficult the next step will be?

I know there are tables showing difficulty increases per GR level. But, I prefer not to waste keys going too high on the next attempt. Here’s what I’m hoping for. . .
“Up to 5 minutes…” you’re probably strong enough to progress 3 GRs.
“5 to 10 minutes…” questionable, but doable at 2 GRs.
" Over 10 minutes…" stick to 1 level increase at a time.

You have to factor in ease/perfection of the GR as well, so that if you completed it quickly (under 3 minutes) because you had excellent density and 4 pylons then that does not mean you can necessarily jump 3 GRs. Your next one might be awful so you wasted a key anyway. If you’re fishing, you might as well try for as high as you can - you might get a very good GR and fly through it.

You have to judge it based on the quality of the rift you cleared. Like mule above me has already stated. If you want a blanket statement that tells you how high you can push you won’t find an accurate one. There is too many variables when you are fishing a max rift.

Now my personal opinion on fishing is as follows. You should first play in a 4 man meta so that your GR cap is already unlocked to 150 or at least a lot higher then your capable of clearing. This way you can fish for your max. Nothing is worse then opening a GG set of maps and clearing it when it would only be a +1 personal record. You would have likely cleared another 2-3 levels higher if you had it available to you.

So that said always run at least +2 levels above you max. Run +3 levels if your previous best was on sub par set of maps. Run +4 levels if you are just starting a season as gear and paragon at low paragon give very big gains quickly. Generally playing your main build over 5k paragon gains become slower and it becomes harder and harder to progress. So the closer you are to 150 the higher the requirement to fish tons of keys and paragon is weighted so much more then gear.

It is safe to say if you are completing a Gr in under 5 minutes, you should easily be able to skip 3 more GR’s. If you have a lot higher unlocked, you could easily jump more than that. When I am leveling gems, I will tend to jump 5 GR levels if I am completing the current level in under 5 minutes. 5-10 minutes to complete, I will jump 2-3 GR’s. Over 10 minutes to complete, I will go up 1 GR at a time.

As others have stated, if you get the god map (festering woods), with perfect monsters/elites, nice pylon layout, and ez mode RG, you may want to take that into account and not make too big a jump from there.

This tells me you don’t spend much time at all doing T16 rifts with your follower wearing Cains set and DB set w/ RoRG collecting keys.

Be smart and run t16 rifts for a couple hours getting your key total over 150 or so.

One must prepare oneself in order to do GR’s.

Can’t do GR’s for very long, if you are low on keys.
