IN before “OMG they are mandatory if I want the rewards!!!one”
Yes, but for someone who dont really want to play with others, in this scenario, their most logical option is just stand in the distance, waiting for the others to take the world boss down to 5% or whatever, jump in, and loot. How is that really making the experience more fun for anyone. If people could solo if they want to and “group” (in the open world) if they want to, you likely increase the chance of people who are there actually want to participate.
Yes you can fight a world boss by yourself. You just gotta git gud.
Hopefully. It would be perfectly fine if world bosses were hard to solo, but possible.
There is a dash mechanic added, have you guys forgot? Just pretend its dark souls and dash when boss attacks. Learn his/her attack patterns. It make take like hours but its possible. Im sure there will be youtube videos of guys soloing world bosses.
I’m not stingy. If I started a World Event, all by myself, and 20 other players joined in just in time to land the killing blow, I would be glad for the help.
The loot is player-specific, so no one can pick up mine. And they’re perfectly welcome to grab what drops for them.
In the end… I will feel glad that I, hopefully, helped them get some decent, well-needed loot.
But… that’s just me.
You’re right…they’re something I can do…as long as I fundamentally change how I play the game; that’s the issue.
I don’t care about the loot. That’s not the issue here. I can get better loot in D3 if I team up and do top tier GRs too but I never have. I’ve played all of D1, much of D2, and all of D3 (since release) and have never even seen another player in either game because Diablo is one of my games I go to when I don’t want to see or deal with other people.
I am an introvert who works in a very public job (I’m a college professor) and sometimes I just need to escape and do something where I know I’m completely alone, which I find very peaceful and stress reducing. Diablo has always filled that spot for me and now in D4 there are going to be places and aspects of the game that I can’t even experience without breaking that peacefulness.
I’m sorry that D4 is looking like it might not be the game for you.
But, since I won’t have to “team up” with anyone, I just look at other players in the world like NPCs.
I’m used to Tyrael and Leah following me around in D3 during some Quests in the Campaign and even helping with the fighting. And with Bounties like Blood and Iron in Act II, Dahlgur Oasis and Catapult Command in Act III, Stonefort, among others, there’s always situations where NPCs are teaming up with your Character temporarily.
At least, that’s how I see it. But, that’s just me.
If you decide not to venture into D4, I hope you find you find something that will give you enjoyment and peacefulness.
I’ll still play D4, I still play multiplayer games when I’m in the mood; and besides as many people (you included) have pointed out most of the game I can play solo anyways. I’m just disappointed that they didn’t make all aspects of the game doable solo (and my that I mean single-player; not “I did it without actually forming a group with the other people here”).
Just add Private lobbies like in Diablo 3. Always online with the choice of playing solo or in (public) group… It’s always better to start any game solo at first , it feels more immersive and better overall (imo), after that i have no problem playing with some other people…
If they remove trading on D4, it will end up like D3. I will be the first not to touch it.
To many “entitled gamers” this days.
Good thing is devs said that the first story playtrough will be 100% solo. Only exception will be if you invite someone to party.
The irony of that statement is that the people who want trading are generally the selfish type that want an economy they can control and benefit from… or, in other words, the entitled players.
Also remember how worse was D3 launch with the RMAH (basically trading 2.0) and they had to remove it.Also D2 Online have been ruined by people using bots benefiting by the economy… (plus the spamming from third party black-market sites which you can buy items with real money), another bad thing about trading is most of the time it’s mandatory to make any sort of progress…All gear must be possible to acquire in 100% solo play with reasonable effort.
The irony in this statement is amazing
blizzard has said that the world bosses can not be killed solo. What will they drop? If it’s just cosmetic like wings or a rainbow sword no big deal. if it’s only dropped by world bosses and an item that is BIS then I’ll pass.
I can’t solo this one event in a game made to be online! My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined! I don’t think any of the “Solo” people would have liked D3 if it were made by the same people who made D2. I can understand being upset because maybe they don’t have the best internet connection. But people just complaining about solo play will probably still buy the game and deal with it. No game is going to be 100% to your liking. The devs clearly have an image of what they want the game to be and this was one thing they didn’t ask for feedback on. They want this game to be online, they want to have people share the world. They are even trying to help the “Solo” players out by making the main aspects of the game for you to solo. But put one or two events that mean nothing, except for maybe an achievement, that require sharing virtual space with a few people for like 5 minutes and well “My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined”. Seriously even if they add in cosmetics or achievements for doing these, just deal with the different events one time each and get the achievements and never touch them again. Run dungeons forever.
Hey! they are adding Dungeon keys into the game right?! I have a brilliant Idea for those that wanna solo world bosses. Make a dungeon key that changes the boss of said dungeon into one of the world bosses. These could also even be scaled down in power to make it more reasonable to solo. These would also make great trade items for the solo player to look for.

if you will be playing alone without encountering any other players you will not see their shiny MTXs so you will not give $$$ to activision to look good too.
So you dont want there to be optional content for others because you just dont want it? Dude stick to your story quests and key dungeons then just because you dont like something doesnt mean that you speak for everyone its a choice your choice is obviously not to do it. Othwrs have the right to the same options. Other people can choose to opt in or out.
