Because without that we go back to the days of trying to get the perfect gear only after 800 which is very very soon. I don’t get why people want the pre-ROS days so badly. Like there’s a reason 2.0.1 was the most hyped patch ever, and removing the paragon cap was one of the biggest factors.
Even before that thanks to the AH players didn’t even feel the real pain of no progress for very long. It’s exactly why back in those days we made multiple level 100 paragon toons before the patch to get the conversion levels, just pure loot grinding has always been boring and uninspired.
And no, just making that as long as it did for paragon 100 back in the day for paragon 800 is not the solution, that’s just going backward for no good reason.
Crazy concept, but atm if you spend a week trying to get the desired gear piece and you don’t get it you at least gained progression and power through paragon so you feel motivated to keep going! It’s just that doing that indefinitely with more main stat (technically not infinitely) that’s the issue.
But it doesn’t need to be infinite, just more reasonable.
capping paragon points in seasons is probably the easiest remedy to combat players that are botting from staying on top of the leaderboards. so i can see why they are doing it. it will be a breath of fresh air for players that been here since season 1 and had to deal with these bots running up to 15-20k+ paragon. that is ludicrous. i am happy for this change.
if you run a season and manage to get over 10k paragon legitimately, physically, yourself, grinding, then you need professional help. otherwise, you are running a bot and now you will lose against real players.
Agree, and it does become part of your comfort zone.
Powercreeping has been an ongoing issue, we certainly enjoyed powercreep and some player bases(my self) are more concerned. Its never too late to clamp down powercreeping but if you care about balance of builds, it really is too late. As said in my previous post(s), certain classes/builds have high damage mitigation items once paragon capped, out perform other builds. D3 GR DR is equally as important as damage. If you ever owned 6k/8k/10k/15-20k accounts in the past, you will understand toughness is biggest return on high paragons. In my opinion, clamping on paragon isn’t a problem and personally welcomes it (I am usually a high paragon player sits somewhere within 1% to 0.1% of player base each season), am concerned with performances of squishy builds at low paragon (my personal build is R6 gen) but equally concerned with builds like zuni darts etc and I am not a WD player. In fact @ 800 paragon, AoV FoH crusader feels bad on 125-130+ GR, minor - moderate fishings are required let alone top clears of 140. Friend of mine screeshoted his all class solo rank 1 on PTR and the amount of time he spent is ridiculous. The usage rate of GR keys is so low, close to 10-12% usable, the rest is wasted. Higher paragon improves usage rate of GR keys aka more efficient at player times. Hence I asked for 3-4k paragon cap as the time invested in Rank 1 fishings will net you paragons far exceed 4k. On my alt accounts, it takes me few hrs from 1500 to reach 2400 paragon from zbarbing on speed 150s this season indicating XP grind isnt as tedious if you know what you are doing. Of course I am not promoting META grouplaying, its individual choices. Paragon cap this low isn’t as effective as promoting “saving time” as some perceives, you still have to put in effort and energy measured by countless hours and player experiences like myself (40k hours of playing time with full spread sheets and data analytics built up over the years) are very advantageous.
Simple, we like the paragons as steady reward for time invested.
After reaching the cap, If I can play 2h per evening and don’t find that primal with the right stats in that session, my account is in the same state as if I didn’t play at all
Without paragon cap my account has a few more levels and mainstat to show for the time invested.
Those sessions without any gains make many players question why they keep playing the game at all and not one of the many others.
While the constant progression paragon provides, keeps us invested into the game.
That’s why I get bored playing. Way many elites speak about paragon it makes it sound like godlike power which it’s not. I don’t see any difference between 1200 and 1400 paragon levels. What does make difference is ancients with 125 augments.
1200 paragon don’t belong in LB competition conversations which a lot of purist (metalhead) cares about for this paragon cap. Its another topic when individuals competes against themselves by climbing GR tiers where paragon isn’t and shouldn’t be a factor.
It depends what do you do. D3 is overall a simple game, but to compete regularly on top ranks/time attacking, certain deep dive still needed as every second of time cost can be crucial.
For example:
tile sets
map layouts
mob traits
mob progression
total no of elites on the map
pylon spots
more advanced is: elite spawn estimations based on map/layout/given elites as well as familiar with mob traits to trap/pin down teleporters etc in a split second decision making.
These are basic/generic knowledge fundamental to zbarbs in a 4 man team and widely used in solo rankings. Its not coincidental consistent solo top ranks are usually elite zbarbs. It depend what kind of gaming you seek, boredom is quite subjective interms tedious grindings in D3. Elite players usually careless about absolute paragon but judge player ability on overall understanding of the game as well as control of situation.
What’s fun/addictive isn’t crushing paragon but total control of every situation especially disadvantaged ones. More satisfaction comes at bad map time attacks over spoon fed map spawns.
