Game freezes instantly on start, can't kill process

Sometimes, just after starting the game, my client will freeze and i can’t kill the process through any means: task manager won’t pop up when i select it, killing from alt tab menu or right clicking task bar doesn’t work, it just hangs. I had this problem before DDOs, but it would eventually unlock and was far less frequent.

All i see is a still picture of my character and whatever town they’re in.

Moving Threads

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the title of your thread. (See image below).

  1. Click the "Category" field to bring up a list of D3 Forums. (See image below).

  1. Find the proper Forum and select it.
  2. Save your edit.
This will move your thread to the selected Forum, including all replies.

It happens to me on both Mac and Windows more than I’d like.

I usually play with only battle net and D3 open so I can do this on Windows:

  1. Hit ctrl+shift+esc to open task manager (it does open!)
  2. hit the down key (▽) twice (once to select battle net, then again to go to the d3 process - ordinarily I can’t see it)
  3. hit Alt+E to End task.

It works blind for me. YMMV. I’ve sent in DxDiag files and it hasn’t been helpful so I just kill the process then relaunch from battle net. Second time works a charm.
