As the title says dont do your challenge rift when it resets next monday.
Edit- When it resets somewhere today/tonight or tomorrow morning.
The reason for this is you can save it up for when the new season starts and do it right at the start of the new season to give your seasonal toon a nice boost from all the mats/gold/bloodshards the challenge bag contains.
Wait till the new season starts
make a new seasonal toon
log in to the game (ive been told this step isnt necessary but i do it anyway)
log out
start the challenge rift
log onto your seasonal toon and claim the bag
The bag contains:
475 bloodshards
5M gold (maybe little more or little less)
15 of each legendary crafting material
35 deaths breath
bunch of white/blue/yellow crafting mats
This is a great start for a new season so dont waste it
I do this too because I don’t want to risk it, but technically neither of these steps are necessary.
You don’t need a seasonal character in order to claim the challenge rift, the season just has to be live before you complete the challenge rift (kill the challenge rift RG I believe).
Some groups (the Russian group that goes for conquests across all the servers spring to mind) will start the challenge rift several minutes before the season starts, wait until the season goes live, then complete the rift, make their character, and claim it.
This is a bit risky though, because there’s been some seasons where the season start is delayed, and I don’t think you get the season start notification while in a challenge rift, so you need to be SURE the season has started before you finish the challenge rift, otherwise you’ve screwed yourself. If you have friends, you can watch your friends list and wait until you see the first leaf icons start to show up before you finish the rift.
Again, I don’t do this, because I don’t want to risk messing it up, but it’s been verified that you don’t need to log into a game or even have a character made, you just need the season to be live before you complete the challenge rift. It’s risky though, and it saves you a few minutes at best. I don’t bother. Reward isn’t worth the risk unless you are going for rank 1 conquests or something where every minute can count. (I missed rank 1 Lionhearted by two minutes once, I had spawned the RG when the other guy popped off).
Just make sure you create or Rebirth a Character first… before you run the Challenge Rift. You can collect the Challenge Cache with any Character on your Region: non-Season Normal, non-Season Hardcore, Seasonal Normal, Seasonal Hardcore. But, a Character must exist in that Game Mode before you run the Challenge Rift.
Note:
If you Rebirth a Character it is converted to a Seasonal Character and starts from scratch: Level 1, starting gear, zero Stash and Artisans Level 1. But, they keep their Name, Lifetime Kills and Time Played.
If you Rebirth a Character you can stash all their gear, including Followers’ gear. That way you don’t have to worry about claiming your items in the mail. (Don’t forget to stash the Legendary Potion on your Action Bar if you want to keep it. Or salvage it for a Forgotten Soul). If you do not stash their gear it will be mailed to your non-Season Characters after the Rebirth. (You’ll have 30 days to claim the mail before it’s deleted).
Challenge Rifts change every Monday at 2:00 PM PST. So, you can do 1 per week, if you want to.
